2 weeks ago I have a customer made a payment from my shop. I got the email. I can’t accesses to accept my customer payments on my banking card. They ask my card info and then ask for the sms code. I phone my bank 3 times. They not accept my code. They assume that I was punching in problem. They won’t let me do something else. I did email Etsy. They were no help. The communication between Etsy is very poor. My customers was expecting her package.
It is a scam DO NOT respond and mark as SPAM.
No not a scam
You have no sale on your storefront. If you had a sale, your storefront would show 1 sale. It does not.
Go look at my shop and @SurnamePro 's shop. They have had 5763 sales, it shows on their storefront. We've had over 9,500 sales, that also shows on our storefront.
You have not had a sale.
Please trust sellers who have been dealing with Etsy for over a decade and know how Etsy works.
Sorry, I know it sucks but scammers target new shops, because shop owners are naive on how Etsy works.
@CharstarartShop According to your shop front, you've had no sales. I believe you've fallen for an email scam. Goes like this:
This is all a fraud.
You need to freeze your card and change your password and contact your bank. You haven't been talking to Etsy, you've been talking to thieves.
BTW, Etsy payments do NOT go on your card. That is not how Etsy works.
Buyer payments go into your shop payment account first, and can be seen there from your dashboard. The money is later transferred to your bank account according to the schedule for deposits you chose.
This is a scam. Don’t respond or provide any personal or financial information. Send it to spam.

@CharstarartShop It IS a SCAM. Etsy has all the information needed to process payments. If the scammer is asking you for your SMS Code, that is a BIG concern as Banks advise NEVER to share those SMS codes with anyone. All a Scammer needs is your CC Number and, if you then provide the SMS, they can access your CC to withdraw not deposit.
If you gave them your sms code call your bank at once and tell them. This is not Etsy. It is a Scam to get your financials.
@CharstarartShop Just another thought. You are in Netherlands. Is your customer also in Netherlands? If so, they may be using "Ideal" as a Payment Method. If this is the case, the customer has to complete the money transfer directly from their Bank using "Ideal". They then have to complete an additional step which is to return to your Shop to complete the transaction. Many people in Netherlands do not complete the final step
But you do not have to do anything. The Buyer has to complete all steps.
Most sites in the Netherlands (and the rest of Europe) have the 2 step Ideal and many are very aware that they need to complete the sale back on the shop page it is no different than when you pay with Paypal, exactly the same.
This sounds like a scam, do not ever give your details to anyone requesting them to complete a sale. All your details are already registered with Etsy.
There is no sale showing in your shop which is what these scammers are banking on.
Added: OP dispatches from Canada, so do not think they are in the Netherlands
@CryzalisDesigns Thank you! for adding your ''added:'' info. Every listing I checked said it shipped from Canada. Thought I was either missing something when looking at the OP's shop or losing my mind.
@CryzalisDesigns and @TheVintagePineapple Me Too. I am sure I saw Netherlands when I checked before making the second comment re Ideal.
That English does not appear to be the OP's first language seemed to confirm this?
What is also confusing is the fact theat OP seems to be trying to "enter the SMS Code" herself, it pass it to the Customer?
@CarpetCollectionAU Possibly French Canadian?
Yes also finding it hard to completely understand what is going on, but about 25% of Canadians first language is not English it is French.
Regarding Ideal, this was actually invented by the Dutch banks so about every Dutch person is completely aware on how to use it.
@TheVintagePineapple Quite possible.
I have just realised I wrote "you are in Netherlands?" and not "are you in Netherlands?" I was intending to confirm what I "thought" I saw
Okay, I did my bank nothing was taken because I was have problems with my sms code. I have never type in the code because they keep says I’m doing it wrong. So I stop trying. I did yelled at them during the chat.
Then you are lucky, many new sellers have had hundreds if not thousands stolen.
Read the forum announcements, there is a section just on scammers targeting new shops on Etsy and they are in overdrive at the moment.
Never provide any information including email if requested to complete a sale.
All your sales will appear in your dashboard, if they do not assume it is a scam
How I know it’s a real actually sale not a scam? I have never got the email
you will know it is a sale if the sale appears in your dashboard with the information of the product sold & customer information
@CharstarartShop You will know if it is a real Order because it will show on your Orders Page and in your Payment Account.
If there is nothing there either the Customer is having trouble with their Bank/CC or the Customer is a "scammer"
Either way, there is nothing you can, or should, do.
So I have more question? When a customer message and ask me for my email address and say it’s should be in my email. Is this scam?
YES. !00%
YES!! this is a KNOWN scam and mentioned so many times on this forum and many have lost money to it
