Hi, I am disappointed to say the least. My account previous had over 700 5 star reviews and 3k sales. I left the account and took a break to when I had a new baby and completed all orders and put the shop on holiday mode. I have come back a year later to a hacked account.
initially I couldn’t even access the account and Etsy helped me regain access and changed the email address and password on the account. However I now cannot change the bank details on the account there is no option to edit. The account name is mine but the bank details are not mine meaning an account has likely been set up in my name. I am sending emails and getting no response and the live chat option is stuck on a previous chat which you can’t completely close or clear. Writing in the chat asking for help or a representative does nothing. The call back option just says there’s an error everytime I put my number in. I am at a loss right now. I am very worried that the next deposit (I’ve set it to a month so it’s as long as possible but this it’s set to deposit in just over a week) will go into the hackers account and not mine if I am not assisted in changing these details immediately.
in addition to this, the hacker created listings selling Christmas pyjamas (I sell baked goods and no clothing whatsoever) and we’re taking customers money and not sending any items out. This resulted in a multitude of negative reviews on my page which has driven my previous 5 star rating down to 1 star and Etsy are refusing to remove the orders saying customers have a right to have an opinion on my customer service BUT IT WASNT MY CUSTOMER SERVICE. And it is very clear to see the account was hacked. Why should I now pay for what the hackers have done and lose sales due to my incredibly low shop rating. I have over 700 5 star reviews and over 3k sales and worked my butt off on that shop building it up for it to be taken away due to hackers and Etsy unwilling to step in and help. This just does not seem right at all. I am so unhappy.
can anybody advise anything that will help as Etsy are being no help whatsoever and my emails are not replied to
What a terrible situation! Etsy's support is truly shameful but the reality is that many of their agents have no idea how to resolve anything anyway.
You might have already read this article but perhaps there is a link in there somewhere:
What to Do if You Suspect Fraud in Your Etsy Account – Etsy
@AvasFlavours - I'm assuming you have already done a thorough scan of your computer & any device you used to access your shop. Even a year later it doesn't hurt to do this.
You won't be able to change the bank account that deposits are sent to since you need to know the current bank account number. You would need to enter that complete number, then enter your correct bank account number. Definitely you will need Etsy's help on changing the bank account associated with your shop.
It appears you have access to your shop & that you are expecting a deposit in June. You can try changing the expiration date of the credit card you have on file - an expired credit card & Etsy will not transfer funds.
Do note that doing this will probably force your shop into an Etsy triggered Vacation Mode.
If you already have opened a help ticket with Etsy via email - find one & stick with it. Multiple tickets can cause one to close the other &/or place you at the back of the line.
As for the attempt to have Etsy call you back, others have mentioned the error pop-up but that in the end it did work. Since you're in the UK first I'd say be sure you're trying that route during normal business hours there. Otherwise, then try going with normal business hours here in the USA - EDT.
Yes, Etsy should be removing the hacker's reviews, etc. But this entire process is going to take a long time, possibly with each problem handled by an entirely different staff.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease. I saw a shop have a similar problem. After complaining many times, Etsy did go and remove the reviews that were clearly from when they were hacked (I mostly remember because they also removed some clearly legit reviews, not just the ones that were due to the hackers). It took them a while and a couple posts about it, but they finally got Etsy's attention.
Just FYI, all your real reviews are over a year old. So once/if you do get this straightened out just understand that you will not have any star rating next to your name (which is better than showing 1 star), since reviews drop from the rating after a year.
I'm so sorry this is happening to you. Great advice from others. May I just add, please do report this to the authorities. You are the victim of a cyber crime.
@FabioMcMustache perhaps can help in getting your issue escalated to a rep that can hopefully straighten things out. Your shop is lovely. Best of luck to you.
