Is there a trick to get the redirect to work with https? I signed up for Plus thinking this was going to solve my issue or open access to additional settings. No worries, I'll keep Plus for a bit and see how it works out.
I own a few domains for various websites I run but when trying to redirect one to Etsy, 'https://mydomain.com' will not work - only 'http://mydomain.com' but I worry that people won't understand the difference. My domain provider reviewed my redirect rule and says it is on Etsy's side.
When I type a link on something like social media, there should be no problem but say I put it on a business card, most people will just type it out and it defaults to https.
Any ideas or am I looking at this completely the wrong way?
With Etsy Plus your domain redirect will have to be http:// and not https:// as the "s" is a service provided by your domain service provider which is not Etsy. Usually you need to pay more for that or host using that service. Good luck this is one reason sellers leave that feature. I have my domain forward as http://surnamepro.com (without the "s") and it seems to work fine.
@WhiteWolfEntLLC: Unless I misunderstood your post, your domain provider is incorrect. If https://mydomain.com is your preferred URL, then http://mydomain.com, http://www.mydomain.com, and https://www.mydomain.com should redirect to that (or be explicitly set up as A Records) BEFORE it redirects to your Etsy shop.
I have tried multiple solutions to try and get it to recognize https and then redirect over to my etsy page.
At best, if I enter http://mydomain.com it will resolve to my https://etsy.store.
@BagmakerSupply - that will depend on the domain hosting config.
@WhiteWolfEntLLC - that sounds like an issue with your domain hosting provider, rather than an Etsy issue.
