My shop sells needle craft supplies, such as yarn. In my Noro Sonata listing, I have listed all the colors of a range whether I have them in stock or not. It's much easier for me this way when I add additional colors later. I use the SKU section to add the amount on order, such as "10 ordered" so customers can see what's on order. Once the yarn arrives, I replace this with the dye lot number, such as "Dye lot F." For colors not ordered or not in stock, I leave this field blank. This feature has always worked well in the old form.
When some of the back ordered colors arrived yesterday, I went back into this listing to add what was now in stock along with the dye lot number. What I found was that "10 ordered" was in every SKU field that I had left blank, so Etsy's system automatically added this information. After I deleted "10 ordered" in all the fields that should be blank and then saved the update, I went back into the listing to double check that the update had held and found that all the updated fields had "10 ordered" in them again. I then added "None ordered" and saved the listing. When I went back into it to check it again, it now said "None ordered." Therefore, I found a workaround, but if Etsy's system is automatically adding information in empty fields, it makes me wonder where else it might do this.
I am also wondering why the Cancel button no long appears so that when you need to exit the new listing form without making changes, the only ways to get out of it seem to be to close the tab or click on a section on the left, such as Listings.
I am so sorry you have to deal with this. There are many glitches with the new form which is why a lot of us are complaining about them getting rid of the old form that WORKED but not fixing the bugs with the new form. My issues were/are that they keep reverting my variations back to the ones I used a year ago where there were different prices listed and I also just noticed they reverted back to my old photos that have completely different color options available even though the photo saved and the listing was fine when I replaced the photo ages ago. So I guess until they fix all of these glitches we need to keep visiting our listings on a weekly/monthly basis to make sure they haven't changed anything on us.
Hm, I never have SKUs, I wonder if they’ll leave that blank or randomly add something? Ridiculous how nothing works around here.
The only things I usually leave blank are occasion, holiday, and then sizes, besides SKUs. I think it’s kind of silly to add item length and width to a doll dress since nobody shops doll clothes like that. I hope Etsy doesn’t begin auto-filling things based on my listings’ descriptions. That’s sure to go very badly.
@MirageRiverCreations: The SKUs I use are the ones that appear on the wrappers of items I resell. They can be useful for handmade or vintage items too if you have a lot of items in your shop.
Oh geez.
Are you saying the problem only occurs when you have some SKUs filled out, but others are left blank? (Fingers crossed, for my own sake...)
I don't think the SKU is visible to buyers anyway. I use them for inventory locations.
Imagine if they were all set to the same thing, though. How would you find anything? (I do the same with my SKUs.)
True, if they were all set to the same thing, I'd be hurting. But I think the OP is trying to communicate with buyers, and that isn't going to happen whether they're all the same or all different. Buyers don't see SKU. So maybe it doesn't matter to her what it says...now that she knows her purpose isn't working for that field anyway.
I really depend on my SKU a lot. I'd have a hard time if it was just randomly filled out.
Oh, I understood it to mean that she was using the SKU fields for inventory purposes: to remember what items she had on hand, on order, etc.
@Adorabilitiesand @GrandmaLaurieThings: I use it for notes to myself to help me keep track of things. For customers, although they can't view the SKU section before they place their order, I'm not sure if they can view it after placing it. When someone orders yarn, for instance, on the Completed Orders page for a seller, underneath the listing title, it shows Quantity, SKU, and Color. I wonder if the buyer can see the SKU that way.
