Glitch: Discrepancy Between Processing Time Profile and Actual Ship-By Dates

Last week, I updated my Processing Profiles to reflect a 1–4 day processing time, accounting for fluctuations based on the day an order is received. However, I've noticed that the ship-by dates for recent orders don't align with this setting. For instance, orders placed on Sunday are showing a ship-by date of Tuesday, effectively reducing the processing time to 2 days and disregarding the 4-day window I specified.

Re: Glitch: Discrepancy Between Processing Time Profile and Actual Ship-By Dates

Unfortunately, this is not a glitch. It is intentional programming. This has been happening for over a year now. If your Shipping "history" is showing Etsy that you typically ship faster than the latest date on your Processing, Etsy is now over-riding your set Processing Profile and advising Buyers to "expect delivery" using the shortest Processing as the 1st day of the Delivery Estimation. Experience has shown that, once you actually ship the parcel, the system does update to show a more accurate EDD.

From the Help Center https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115015588087-How-to-Set-Processing-Times-and-Dispatch-By-Dat...?

"What if I dispatch faster than my processing times?

Having fast processing times can lead to shorter estimated delivery dates, which can help encourage customers to buy items from your shop. If you have a history of completing your orders faster than your listed processing times, you’ll see your actual processing times displayed in your delivery profiles and custom delivery settings. From here you can quickly apply them to your profile. "

Re: Glitch: Discrepancy Between Processing Time Profile and Actual Ship-By Dates

No, what you’re referring to is what customers see based on your shipping history and the estimated arrival time shown on the item page. What I’m talking about is on the back end — specifically, the ‘Ship By XYZ Date’ listed on each order.

When the new ‘Processing Profile’ was added, the updates didn’t fully take effect in the system. So from last week through today, it’s still showing the old processing time on your listings, even if you had updated them to the new timeline. It’s a glitch.

Their recommendation is to manually update the ship-by dates on your orders. For example, if you had 100 orders come in over the weekend and had extended the processing time, you’ll still need to go into each order and adjust the ship date manually. If you don’t catch this, it could negatively impact your Star Seller rating.

Re: Glitch: Discrepancy Between Processing Time Profile and Actual Ship-By Dates

This hasn't worked correctly since last year and recently I've wondered if they've broken it further (somehow) because of the influx of buyers wondering why the order didn't ship on the day it was placed.    I can't figure out if that's just buyer impatience or something Etsy is showing the buyer to indicate the seller will magically ship before the order before they enter their credit card number.

It also infuriates me that Etsy does the 'interpretation' thing based on your previous history.    Why even have options to ship on weekends or processing time?    Now that we live in a climate that gets winter, I bumped my ship time up just in case but as we head into the summer months, I'm inclined to leave it there.    For the month of July last year, we didn't dip below 100 degrees.    If I don't want my packages sitting in a giant metal oven, I will run them down to the PO but I'm certainly not putting on leaving-the-house clothes every day.     That's supposed to be the convenience of running an online store....
