Looking incognito I see some of my items in two of the ad rows on the page. Except my ads are turned off, and they aren't items I was recently advertising? Is it because I'm in incognito mode? I've never seen that before.
If you have ads turned on and add new listings they may be set to advertise upon listing. Just above the publish button asks if you'd like to advertise the listings, it can be set to yes by default and gets advertised if you miss that. When publishing from integrated apps it may publish with ads on because you can't manually turn it off at the publishing step because you aren't involved at that step.
I could send you a screen shot. I took some, because it is super weird. Normally Etsy will show me clumps of my own items, but not as ads. Also in incognito underneath they say Ad by Etsyseller and then the shop name. Some kind of test?
@MouseGarden possibly a test, or a bug. I can't think of any really good reason for them to test ads for people who aren't advertising, though, since they admit they do not have enough ad inventory to fill demand.
