I'm so sorry your first order's a dud - but it's a SCAM. This is NOT an order - somebody's trying to steal your bank info and your money. Thank goodness you came here to check! Visiting the forums is a great way to find out stuff Etsy doesn't always share.
Here's a long, super useful thread about scams to watch out for:
You never have to go to email, you never have to give any more info, with a genuine order.
Hopefully you did not actually give your credit card details because this is a known scam and it could be that you need to contact your credit card company ASAP if you entered any information.
If you ever receive a message where someone asks for your email address in order to purchase do not give it to them.
Also if you have a legit order on etsy it will show in your orders.
I unfortunately did put my card details in. I ignorantly even confirmedmy bank balance because I was just so excited when a message came through that I received my first sale minutes after loading my first item. The window seemed so legit because it even had a support chat pop up window that asked me what currency I was referring too. I guess my luck our South African rand is not worth much when converted.
I think they did.... "there after it just spins and spins for hours..."
If you entered your card details, you need to contact your bank immediately.
This is getting out of control now... it is time Etsy to do something about it!
@FabioMcMustache In a thread a couple of weeks ago you said that Etsy was aware of this...can't remember the exact words...but it appears it was implied that they would be working on a notice.
Do you know if they are going to do a notice? It is really impacting the sellers because the email looks like an official email from Etsy.
They turned off commenting this morning on Brad's post so it will no longer get bumped up to the recent activity posts, again saying they're working on releasing something. Still haven't actually released anything. Just keep saying they're working on it and they will.....
why in the world would they not want that to be bumped. That was really good information that should be a constant reminder to people.
There is no reason etsy should care that people are aware of scams unless I am missing something.
It makes no sense that they wouldn't alert people to what is happening so innocent people don't lose money because they don't know better.
No it does not make sense. I am hoping that an official notice to sellers is soon forthcoming. Meanwhile, or if not, there are daily hacking or scam reports coming in from new sellers and those can be bumped until Etsy shuts those down as well.
Never give up.
They closed it with the comment along the lines of 'we'll be releasing our own statement on this soon'.
Why they couldn't leave it open until they did, well, only Etsy will ever know that. Because they also said weeks ago they were working on something.
Considering there seems to be dozens of posts every day about new shops questioning these emails, I can't imagine how many are falling for them and not posting. I honestly don't understand why it's taking them so long. And again, if it's going to take that long, why they couldn't leave that post open until they were ready.
it's Friday. for sure nothing is forthcoming this weekend. etsy open for scammers.
I think it would be a good idea to create another post (thread) with your scam list. Would you mind if I tried?
@audreytherese
Or they could actually assign a staff member to watch the forums and answer these posts. The fact that sellers have to protect each other from being scammed by fake-Etsy-support is really something.
And I agree about the number of sellers who are not coming to the forum after realizing they had been scammed. I wouldn't!
SCAM! This is not an order. Sadly, you are not the first or last new seller this has happened to.
Since it sounds like you entered your card details, you must contact your bank and cancel that card right away since the scammers can now use it. They also have your email address, so beware of any email that comes in that could be a scammer. They create fake Etsy pages to fool you.
You should never click on a link in an email. Always check on Etsy to see if you have an order showing. Do not give out your email address or allow any "buyer" to try to take the sale off Etsy. I'm so sorry this happened to you.
