I'll try to make this quick as I am off to bed in a minute. IF I don't get back tonight I will try in the AM:
I stay signed in to this shop on Firefox all the time, unless leaving home. I stay signed into my other shops on Chrome and one on Edge.
Tonight I wanted to look something up on the internet and when I opened a new tab nothing happens--no other website will open BUT I can go anywhere on Etsy quickly and my email provider, which is also open in a window works fine.
ON Chrome and Edge I can load other websites but on Firefox (my preferred) only etsy and my email --both of which I was already signed in to.
Anybody heard of this--and techies what could be the problem? I don't think it is cache or cookies as everything on Etsy loads really fast. No slowdowns
No one knows?
Sorry, thanks anyway
Sorry, no idea.
I'm running Firefox and all websites open on it.
Guessing wildly . . . It could be a DNS problem, Firefox has settings where you can limit DNS lookups to using https, so that they can't be snooped, and limit to particular dns services. Depending on your firefox dns settings, if your specified dns service was unavailable (it happens) then new tabs may not be able to open websites. Go to settings and search for "dns".
Apply the standard fixes: Close your Firefox browser & then reopen it. If that don't fix it do a computer restart.

It is a long shot, but have you tried updating your internet security & virus software?
I have not used firefox in years, but whenever there is an issue with my browsers not opening websites, blank screens or blocking them it tends to be my security blocking the browser. It is set to automatic update and install anything to do with web security & virus protection but for some reason every now and then it does not install.
Once I run, check for updates and install. The browser is back to normal, like nothing has happened.
Thanks everyone. I don't think I am techie enough to try the DNS thing.I think I will try some of the rest before getting to a panic mode! I do see that a Firefox update is available.
Firefox never works for me as it hangs so often and is very slow. Make sure you have the recent updates installed.
IT says there is a new update available. I am going to try that in the morning. Right now I need to go to bed as it is 2:30 AM here right now. Only up as I couldn't sleep

The DNS thing that @FancyTogs mentioned, and Firefox updates can be found in the same place. On your Firefox toolbar, upper right, (if you've got your toolbar set to the top of your screen), click on the icon that looks like 3 horizontal bars. From there click on "settings". On the opening page (General), scroll down until you see "Firefox Updates" - you might want to click "Allow Firefox to automatically install updates".
For the DNS thing, still in settings, click on "Privacy and Security" (on my version, choices are on the left). Once there, scroll down until you see "DNS over HTTPS", and you'll see "Enable DNS over HTTPS using: and then some options. Click on the one that says "Default Protection".
Hope that helps. I use Firefox almost exclusively, and haven't had the problem you're describing.
And I hope you get some sleep!
Thanks so much. I had already gone to the horizonal bars and settings and I found the "updates". However I simply can't find The DNS thing.
I am going for breakfast now and will try all this a bit later
I want to thank everyone who has given me things to try!
And yes, I too use FF almost exclusively--in fact the only thing I use the other browsers fro are my other Etsy shops and their associated emails.
I install the new version of FF and did a reboot and things are working again! Thank you, everybody!
