I was directed to copy the link sent to me by Etsy so I could finish sale and had no luck. Can I please get some help?
Hello,
Etsy is actively engaged in preventing scammers from targeting our community members. If you receive a suspicious message, please proceed with caution. Etsy Support will never ask you to provide personal information via Etsy Messages, such as your email address or password. Any legitimate message from us will show in your "From Etsy" folder.
If you receive a suspicious message, here’s how to report it:
You’ll find examples of common scammer techniques and phishing messages here in our Help Center. Read our Account Security Checklist in the Seller Handbook for more steps you can take to protect your account.
Consider yourself lucky you had no luck. That was a message from a scammer. When you actually get a sale there will be no links to copy. The sale will just appear on your dashboard.
That was a scam.
New sellers like yourself are prime targets for a number of scams targeting them.
I hope you didn't give them any sensitive info re CC, bank account or personal stuff.
Someone will be along with reading material for you that talks about scams.
ETA, you will want to reconsider selling your items here. I expect you don't know that there is ZERO seller protection for merchandise at $250 and above, which includes shipping.
What this means is that anyone can claim they didn't get your package, even if it shows delivered and signed for, and Etsy will yank that money out of your account to refund the person before you can say holy scammer, batman!
Many sellers have removed their high-end merch from this site as it just isn't safe anymore to sell it here.
There is also no protection for items that violate Etsy's Terms of Use.
Don't falsely label coins from 2023 as "vintage from before 2000".
That was a SCAM.
SCAM! That is not how etsy works. To "finish a sale" you mark it as completed on etsy (under "Orders and Shipping") and send it off.
OP, as a new seller, you will be inundated with scam purchases on Etsy. As stated above, don't take any conversations off Etsy, don't offer any financial information. If you get a questionable sale or just feel uneasy, come to the Forum for advice.
Op, what are you selling? Photos of coins? Listing I looked at was for a digital download!
@CoinhutTreasures: New shops are targets for scammers. Having an incomplete shop (no location, about, policies, etc) like yours also makes you more desirable to them in addition to affecting you negatively in search. Blatantly violating Etsy policy (selling items from 2023 as 'Vintage from before 2000') further makes you look attractive to scammers, and could get your shop shut down.
You may want to reread how things work on Etsy - for example that real orders will show up on your Orders & Shipping page and your Payments page. There is also official information from Etsy at https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000343128-How-to-Handle-Spam-and-Suspicious-Messages?segm...
For all we complain about Etsy support, the Help Pages are full of useful information, particularly for new sellers.
"Can I please get some help?" And just so you know, even if Etsy Support or the Help Pages sent you here this is a seller peer to peer forum, and should not be considered a way to contact Etsy, if that is your hope (although Etsy does sometimes read and reply to posts).
@CoinhutTreasures I strongly suggest you finish setting up your shop and reconsider selling anything here over $250 (including tax and shipping) as you are not protected.
You also cannot sell currency that is not vintage (over 20+ years old)
You also need to really flesh out your descriptions if you expect buyers to pay those high prices! They will need more info than "Beautiful condition" as your sole description. I would want to know how it was being shipped (signature confirmation or the like) for such expensive items.
Genuine messages from Etsy will appear in the 'From Etsy' folder of your message inbox. Click on the 'From Etsy' folder to check. All other messages are from potential/buyers so if they say they are Etsy help/support etc. then they are scammers.
Mark scam messages as SPAM.
