Expired Listings

Jump to solution

I currently have 147 listing that should have expired but are still active and available for purchase in my shop.  Dating back to September 1, 2023 to June 26, 2024  (yes, that's correct back to September 2023).  Bulk of it April 2024 to September 2023.  About half no views last 30 days, other half 1-4 views last 30 days.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Yes but I don't see the problem. You are saving 20 cents per listing!

My sales are down about 75%.   I used to get 6-10 orders per day.  Now if I'm lucky I get 1-2 orders per day.  As I mentioned about half of those with No Views = no orders.  That is a problem.

The problem is that when I have an expired listing, it still shows as active to a buyer - I don't have that listing anymore, and can't replace it.

Promote those old listings on social media.

It is a problem when Etsy decides to renew them all at once charging the listing fees and making them all expire on the same day.  This has happened to some.

There have been other threads on this oddity/glitch - listings never expiring even though they are set to manual renewal. How you handle it is up to you.
From previous threads: If you go in and edit the listing you will probably find the listing goes to inactive/expired. Or it might be renewed.

Etsy may eventually catch their glitch. From there you may suddenly find that all 147 listings are suddenly renewed. You will be billed for these renewals. They will all have the same expiration date in the future.
Etsy may catch the glitch, bill you for the past eight months or so, plus hit you with a "current" renewal fee. Again all of the listings will have the same expiration date in the future.

I'd guess it's possible that the glitch could cause the expired listings to not show up in any search results. But they're still visible in your shop though buyers would only see them when visiting your shop.

I have a collection of those permanent listings ... I just let them be. They're free listings.

I checked them the other day and about 1/2 have at least 1 view ... so they do get looked at.

If I believed that they were a problem, I'd simply deactivate them. By the way, once they are are deactivated, they can't be reactivated with the out of date date. I know because I accidently deactivated one of these listings and reactivating it cost 20 cents.

This is an ongoing, serious, technical issue. When an item is EXPIRED, it should not show up as available for purchase. I cannot always get more of an item - once it is gone, it's gone. I sell in a retail space as well, and thought that an expired listing would be fine to keep an item out of inventory - I have been caught too many times in the last few months with a purchase for an item that expired more than a year ago. I don't want them renewed if I don't have them, and I don't want them available for purchase if they are expired.
