The title says it all. I'm on Chrome and Firefox and Etsy won't let me do ANYTHING in either browser on my IPad. I've looked to see if there is an update (there isn't one), deleted Chrome to force it to update and yet Etsy isn't happy. I just now tried to use the Etsy app on my IPad and I can't load new listings on there either.
What am I supposed to do, buy a new IPad?? I can't afford that!
My IPad says it's up to date, IPadOS 14.7.1
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
@ForeverWindingWool The message is specific to iOS Safari support. You already have the latest version of Safari (14.7.1) and hence the banner isn't displaying when you view Etsy via Safari.
As far as I can tell it appears to be a generic message just warning people that older versions of Safari will no longer be supported after September 14th but it appears in all browsers, Chrome and Firefox included, I suspect just to make everyone aware.
As you are using Chrome and Firefox, in theory, it shouldn't be an issue. For reference, the current versions of Chrome and Safari on iOS are 93.0.4577.39 and 36.0 respectively, but the fact you are also having issues with the Etsy app makes me think this may be an issue specific to your iPad, difficult to know for sure.
When you say your "tablet has definitely been shut down several times", do you mean, as in the screen has been switched off or has it been completely rebooted by holding down the Power button and Home button simultaneously for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo appear? If not try a complete reboot and see whether or not that rectifies the issues you are experiencing?
I think the message is just badly worded, it's saying older versions of the browser you're using won't be supported, not that version you're currently using won't be supported.
Just went to my iPad (on my pc now), and tried to update a listing using the app, no problems. My OS is the same as yours, and it's only a year old, so that's not the problem. I haven't gotten that message. Did you turn your iPad off and on? Maybe that will help. Try to go directly to the website through safari on your iPad and see if you can login to your shop.
Thanks for replying Lady. I am signed into Safari with no header notification of impending doom, so that's good. I just don't understand why my Chrome and Firefox are throwing up notifications if no one else that has that OS is getting them. I've had the popup banner warning me for numerous weeks now so my tablet has definitely been shut down several times.
I wonder why the app didn't work for me earlier? Probably an Etsy glitch.
I'm not fond of Safari, but I guess if it means it's the only way I can work on my shop with my tablet, then I'll have to adjust.
Reluctantly I had to buy a new ipad as mine would not update. I was told by the shop my ipad would have eventually be unsupported by more and more sites. Traded it in and got a fabulous new one.
That’s nuts to me. I hate the control these companies have over us. They can literally force you to buy another computer/tablet/phone simply because they can “update” your version into obsolescence (for safety)?
I’m willing to only go so far with these companies. My phone (which is 2 years old) is already showing signs the battery is going to die. When it does they will tell me I have to get a new one because they can’t take the battery out and force me to shell out $$$ for a new one. I’m not doing it. I’ve got an old GPS I’ll use for directions.
Once this tablet becomes obsolete, I’ll stick to my desktop only. THAT will be the only thing I will be willing to keep updated since they last so long.
Sorry for the rant. I’m becoming more and more resistant to being forced into doing things.
Have you tried not using the app? I don’t use the app, I use Safari, and I haven’t had any problems. Before buying a new iPad try going to Etsy without the app.
I normally don’t use the app but I was wanting to upload pics from my tablet and since Etsy wasn’t working on the browsers I normally use, I thought I’d just use the app. I guess it was a perfect storm situation.
I will say this, It is really difficult to make new listings on the app with my products. I’ve decided I won’t do that again unless I can copy a listing!
I used the app when it first came out, for a few weeks. There were so many problems it just wasn’t worth it. I did everything from take the photos, list the items, and get the shipping labels through my iPad and had no problems.

I went ahead and did a complete reboot as you suggested. The banner still remains on FF and Chrome. I am now able to move about Etsy on those browsers now tho, so thanks for the suggestion.
I don’t have the warning banner on Safari on my tablet and I’m able to cruise around fine there. With the warning banner, Etsy is acting like my versions of Firefox and Chrome are compromising my ability to stay safe on the internet by including “in order to ensure that user data remains secure” in their warning statement.
In retrospect, my trouble with the app very well could have been my internet. I’ll try and load up some items this AM and see how it acts. If it acts out I’ll delete it and reinstall.
Thanks so much for chiming in!
well then how come I can't access any of my orders to download the patterns but I can on my cell phone?
@MEMERESDesign this is an old thread so some information may be out of date. I suggest you start a new thread and explain your specific problem so that we can try to help you.
@MEMERESDesign: "... but I can on my cell phone ..." Do you mean using the buyer app or using the seller app or using a mobile browser?
As suggested you may want to start a new thread with details of what issue you are experiencing.
I think the message is just badly worded, it's saying older versions of the browser you're using won't be supported, not that version you're currently using won't be supported.
This is the text I see even in both Chrome and Firefox on iOS, I agree, it is badly worded...
"Etsy will stop supporting older versions of Safari on 14th September 2021. Please update to the latest version of iOS and MacOS."
I wish they would just say the most recent iOS version they are not going to support. I'm sick of looking at the banner. I've had no issues navigating the site and I'm on Mohavi 10.14.6 still.
I've had that on Safari for weeks. There's no update I can do as my Mac is too old!!! On Chrome I have no problems (yet)
I haven't had too much trouble so far on my outdated devices (iPad running 10.3.2 and iPhone on 12.1) except certain features are starting not to work on the iPad. I know it's just a matter of time. Got a cheap refurb duplicate iPad with the latest update (iOS 15.4.1) and I cannot log in at all.🤷
