Etsy wants Verification

I keep getting messages that Etsy needs me to verify my account or it will be suspended. I have had sales and have verified my account, but now it says I need to download a QR code to verify or it will suspend my account. Is this one a scam as well?

I have also got the "Navy scam email" AND several "need email scam"

It seems I get more scam emails everyday, this makes me nervous that I will miss a sale or that my account may not be as secure on Etsy as I would like.  I have a lot of online E commerce sites and don't have this many problems with scams, could Etsy do more to protect us or stop these from happening? I am not a computer person and maybe it's impossible to stop completely but the increasing amount is worrisome.

Re: Etsy wants Verification

It’s a scam, they want you to give them your accounts so they can steal from you, not Etsy

. Mark as spam and do not engage.

Re: Etsy wants Verification

In order to check if the messages are actually from Etsy, you need to look at your message folders in your shop manager. Messages from Etsy will be in a folder called "from Etsy." Do this in a browser, not the app.

Re: Etsy wants Verification

You are a new shop, the scammers target new shops.  Most older shops seldom get scam messages.  Here are some posts you should read from Etsy explaining what Etsy is doing to combat scams:

https://community.etsy.com/t5/Announcements/New-From-Etsy-section-in-Messages/m-p/143722497#M1899

https://community.etsy.com/t5/Announcements/Protect-Your-Account-From-Scammers/m-p/143158945#M1882

I'm currently getting daily scam messages on Facebook and instagram, and I get daily scam emails claiming to be from my credit card company, Amazon, etc. and recently started getting scam texts claiming to be from USPS.  Online scams are growing all over the web.  And once scammers hit soft targets, they swarm like flies on a dead carcass.  Unfortunately, many new Etsy sellers are exactly the "soft target" that falls for these scams.

Re: Etsy wants Verification

it appears like a valid method and computer technique to verify -- to verify that their electronic message to you - gets to YOU, ie the user of your account, and not off into limbo cyber space.

to prevent the message from going where it does not belong. that is just the message just the email they are verifying.

it is not meant to vefiry anything that that the message may be about.

i emaield etsy and i have a couple messages and i ca'nt read them uintil i figure out how these QR codes work. i see those QR codes places andpaope take picture. i dont know if they have special cameras or softwaer in their camera or phone camera that they use them.

so it also says can take a screen shot of this.

so it is my frustrion with the QR codes that rthey use them.

it does not appear to be an etsy scam. i emaikled them and they would have wrote me back.

if you pass the vefiriciation atll that does is allow you to read the message sent to you from etsy. nothing more

Joanne

Re: Etsy wants Verification

The messages you are getting with the QR codes are not from Etsy. They are scammers, you do not need to figure out how they work.

When and if etsy needs any financial or identification information there will be a notice on your dashboard. They don't communicate through  email or QR codes.

Real messages are in the message folder marked from Etsy.

If you get any other messages asking for your email or a QR code, put them in spam.

Re: Etsy wants Verification

Etsy, REAL Etsy, will never send a QR code for verification of anything.  They will generally only communicate with you through your shop dashboard or via email…not using the Buyer/Seller messaging system.

If they contact you back after downloading or accessing a QR code through messages…they are scammers.
