I'm posting here in Technical Issues, hoping someone from Etsy reads this.
Now, whenever I get an Etsy email notification about an Etsy message, the message text is no longer displaying. Something changed with the message formatting between June 16 and 26. I'm now forced to log into Etsy to read the text. Like many sellers, I rely on being able to read the message text to decide how quickly I need to react, especially when I'm away from my computer. It also affects my message management within Etsy, because reading the message in Etsy marks it as "read" (of course), whereas if I only read it in my email, it remains "unread" in Etsy so it stays as an active to-do.
From reading the forums, it seems that some sellers using some email providers are unaffected, whereas those of us who use Gmail (and possibly others) definitely are. Since Gmail is so widely used, I hope Etsy will change back whatever setting got disrupted recently so that we can continue to see the messages within the emails.
If I go look at the "original" (i.e. HTML version) of the email in Gmail, I can see the text is there. It must just be something specific with the HTML now being generated by Etsy that causes the text not to appear in Gmail. Please fix this for us many, many Gmail users!
No one at Etsy will read this, so I recommend sending them a help request about this issue. I've sent them several emails about it and they finally admitted it's a test, not a bug. Hopefully if they get enough negative feedback they will end it!
Help just gives me the runaround and tells me to post here!
My opinion is that they are forcing sellers to actually open the message on Etsy and reply, not just see the email and then not reply immediately. They are REALLY pushing for faster response times to messages right now.
You are lucky you still get Etsy emails, I've only received random emails for a couple years! They will not fix it!
I'm with you - this is just an awful development. I could have written your post, I feel the exact same way and am annoyed for all of the same reasons. This makes things SO MUCH LESS CONVENIENT!
I'm not even getting email notifications when I get an etsy message/convo. This is a new development; I always used to get an email notification. Ever since they changed the convo system to single thread with the big blue banner on top, no email notification comes through. Is there some way to get this fixed?
