Went to Etsy on my iPad web browser, suddenly all words were in another language (maybe german?) and my shop showed as being located in Germany. I’m in USA- North Carolina. Have never lived outside the US. Money was showing not US dollar. This is very odd and extremely concerning. With the language barrier I was eventually able to locate and change my location and language back to what it has always been (US- English). The steps I had to take to correct it means it isn’t possible I “accidentally” changed it myself. Anyone else had this happen? I changed my password and checked for all recent log ins ( all were me). Concerned if this was an Etsy glitch or someone trying to hack my account.
That is strange indeed. Yesterday while on the Forum, where it says "Featured" at the top of the page. It changed to "enfolen" (I believe that was the word; which I believe is in German). Later during the day it changed back to English on its own. Nothing was done to my listings and I remember this happening before on the Forum. Like a weird glitch of some sort.
I don't know why it's showing on your location (BTW, I'm not seeing it when in your listings). I'm seeing, "Ships from Chapel Hill, NC".
Hope someone jumps in.
I was able to change it back, a bit challenging when everything is in another language. Thanks for checking.
Ah, I had that too, though mine said something like "A la sie.." sort of jumbled French.
It went back to normal a little while after.
@TinTeddy Wonder why it does that?
Etsy now has “local” sites listed at the bottom of the page for UK, Canada and Germany. If you click there inadvertently it changes all your definitions. The only way I found to change it back is to go to the page URL and remove the UK/CA/DE and then change the country, language and currency settings. Not sure if there’s a easier way.
I didn't know this; Thank You.
I did the “chat” option in help center to try and find out how this happened. They were not helpful at all. Just said it was all correct now, well that’s because I fixed it. The only answer as to how my location, language, and $ changed was that I must have used a different browser. I didn’t, I have a tab always open to Etsy (my iPad doesn’t leave my house). If using a different browser can change the location of your shop that would be a serious issue - and yes my actual location changed- it showed me as being in and shipping from Germany.
Well, Etsy has been known to change something about our listings and notify us later. Like just recently, when they put some sellers' listings into a brand-new category.
If it happens again, your only option may be to move to Germany.
