Etsy Link to Verify My Store - Is it real?

Jump to solution

Hello,

I received a message today in my Etsy messages and via Gmail that indicated it was from Etsy staff, requesting that I follow a link to fill out a form to identify my store due to an update to the payment system and a security update.

Given that spam has been breaking through into my messages on Etsy, I want to verify this before I follow the link. Is it for real?

Hello, this is your Etsy Staff employee speaking with you

Due to an update to our payment system and global security update, order processing for your account is currently suspended!

You will need to identify your store. As soon as this is done, it will be back up and running normally. Please fill out this form to verify your store: (I AM NOT INCLUDING LINK IN CASE IT IS SPECIFIC TO MY STORE)
Sincerely, Etsy Staff.

Has anyone else gotten this, and if so, can you verify this it is definitely from Etsy?

Thanks,

Lisa

@WordThreadz

You yourself can verify if a message that says it is from Etsy is truly from Etsy.

Whenever you get a message that says it is from Etsy, go to your Shop Manager>Messages using a browser, not the app (the app does not show what you need), and check under Messages where there is a list of links starting with Inbox and Order Help Requests. Under those is a link that says 'From Etsy'. Click it and check if the message is there. If it is not, it is a scam. Anyone can send a message to your inbox, but only Etsy can send one to the 'From Etsy' folder.

PS. Do NOT fall for any messages that claim the 'From Etsy' section of messages is not working. Those are scammers. Mark all scam messages as spam (again, you cannot use the app for this, so use a browser).

Thank you - I'm embarrassed to say I never noticed there was a specific "From Etsy" folder. You are right - it's not there.

No, it's fake, mark it as spam.

It's a scam.  Etsy will never send a link to verify your store, your e-mail, your banking information, or anything else.  No QR codes to scan either.

Easiest way to see if a message is legitimately from Etsy is to sign into your account using a browser (NOT the app).  All messages that are actually from Etsy will be in a folder titled "From Etsy" in your messages.  If it's not there, it's not a legitimate Etsy message.  Please note:  the "From Etsy" folder is not available on the app.

Thank you - I'm so glad I checked. What through me off is that it also showed up in my shop Gmail account with all the same graphics that Etsy used for messages!

Your instincts are correct to ask first - it's not real, not from Etsy.

Mark as spam, as suggested.

@WordThreadz

It's a SCAM--

Etsy knows your name-- since you did sign up with them and would address you as such-- not your business name - your legal name. and Not just Hello..

There is a folder in your Etsy Message center that is "from Etsy"= Only real etsy can post there.. if Etsy needs to talk to you-- it will be there. It is on a Browser and not the app tho.

Also-- Etsy would never talk to you about customer's banking issues or if say someone says their sale won't go thru-- not your problem-- it is between Etsy and the customer and their bank.

Read all the various scams out there targeting Etsy sellers on this forum.

Glad you checked first!

@WordThreadz  Not anything to be embarrassed about since Etsy does not really make it clear or stand out in any way. Most sellers don't realize that folder exists which is why we get these same questions multiple times every day. Glad you questioned it! So many have been scammed unfortunately.

Don't be embarased. I started up the exact conversation here the other day. I had to search the hacking information on etsy to realise there was a "from ebay" in the inbox section. There seems to be a lot of people at he moment asking the exact question. There must be a huge amount of people who actually clicked on that link and now etsy has to sort it out. Would be a lot easier and less heart break if etsy actually put up a warning banner ontop of our inbox page. Just a simple idea

It’s a Scam! Be Alert!
I just experienced this firsthand and want to warn everyone. Here’s what happened:
I received a message directing me to a website with the following link:
etsy.63249231.world/314001577161
The message said I needed to access this site and that an agent would guide me through the process. I followed the link and entered my bank account details. Then, I was asked to provide my account balance, which immediately felt suspicious—no legitimate organization would ever ask for this information to "verify" your account!
The next step was even more alarming. I was instructed to open my banking app and confirm a transaction for the exact amount of my balance. The transaction was listed under the name “Moonpay.”
Thankfully, my bank (Monzo) flagged the transaction as fraudulent and declined it. I also received a warning message confirming it was a scam. Thanks to Monzo’s security measures, I didn’t lose any money.
Please be extra cautious!
