I noticed today that I have many items that are currently on sale for under $35 but Etsy has added a blurb to my listing stating that the item ships for free. There is a little truck icon under the "add to cart" button that says verbatim, "This item ships free to the US." I have the free shipping guarantee turned on but it only applies to orders over $35.
I've already had to ship multiple items for free when customers let me know the listing states free shipping. The clients are being charged shipping at checkout which they should be so that seems like it's working ok but when they come to me later stating they were charged shipping when I said it was free we have a problem. I never stated it was free, Etsy added that bit of information, in error, and now I"m paying for it. I spent about an hour and half chatting with Etsy support to no avail. They recommended raising my prices (insert eye roll).
I'm wondering what I can do as I have no control over what icons or offers Etsy is adding to my listings and I hope this bug can be fixed quickly.
I sorted your shop by price and only see free shipping on items $35 and up.
Even items that are normally $35 or more and are on sale do not get the free shipping (because the sale price is below the $35).
I do see what you're seeing. I looked at this item Moonstone Crescent Moon earrings, on sale for $30.40 (reg. $38, now 20% off).
I see Hooray! This item ships free to the US." above the details.
BUT in the shipping section, I see $4.95 for shipping.
If I add to cart, it's $4.95 for shipping and I see "You're $4.60 away from getting free shipping from this shop."
IMO this is misleading, showing it ships for free on the listing and also has a shipping cost.
Then trying to explain to shoppers that you did NOT put that the item ships for free on the listings.
On items under $35 I see this "Nice choice! Enjoy free shipping to the US when you spend $35+ at this shop."
Ah, I see it now.... I totally missed that since it wasn't on the shop's front page and I saw shipping in the items. It's more like a small byline, one that I as a consumer would have probably skipped right over (though it may look different in an app or on a phone).
LOL......I read everything on listings especially something I want to buy so I know I would have noticed the free shipping AND the $4.95 shipping.
I'm on a desktop. I don't know what it would look like on a phone.
I know the seller didn't put that free shipping blurb there but a lot of shoppers probably think the seller did put it there.
It would probably be off-putting to shoppers IMO seeing conflicting information on a listing. Shipping is either free or it isn't, it can't be both like is showing up on the OP's items.
Plus it sucks that Etsy support isn't helping at all except to tell you to raise your prices.
The problem is even though technically the support people work for Etsy but they really don't work for Etsy as to them knowing how Etsy works. Too many times chat or phone support people give the wrong answers.
I see it and it's not really a mistake when the sale is not in forc for that item is over $35.00 when not on sale.
Maybe Etsy has not written the program to remove that bit when a seller puts shop on sale and it lowers the price under $35.00.
I really had to hunt for it though.
Perhaps the OP should contact Etsy to let them know this doesn't work well with sales.
I was fairly certain I remember a post in the Q&A that basically said, this was intended behaviour.
I can only find this:
Which says they are working on it. That was 2019.
I see pricing on the items under $35.00 for shipping. There rest all seem to be over $35.00 so they would get free shipping.
You are not alone. We reported this issue several months ago. They said their engineers were aware of the issue. In our experience, any regular price listing over $35 that is put on sale (and ends up falling under the $35 threshold) shows the "Hooray! This item ships free to the US" message under the add to cart button--even though there is a shipping amount quoted in shipping section.
It is very misleading and confusing to say the least.
