Etsy Box Blocking my Ability to Purchase Items

I'm a very long time buyer and seller on Etsy but recently I have been unable to spend my money here as there is a big box with a scan code telling me to download the Etsy app, it won't go away so I have gone away and made my purchases elsewhere on eBay and Amazon among others. I am using a desktop iMac, it does not use the Etsy app and I cannot sit there and fool around with this intrusive and offensive box, time is money for me, I make my living here, the chat box doesn't respond to my questions and Etsy is just generally non responsive. And yes, I'm venting, I'm upset, I work hard here, I make new goods every day, I list every day, I sell and ship every day like many other sellers here, I would like to have this pop up box removed as it is not compatible with my computer system. I don't do business on my phone and I don't intend to. 

Maybe some Etsy staff member will take some time to remedy this, business is beyond tough out there right now, how about a bit of help from the folks we support?

I use an iMac also and have never seen that pop up. I had to switch to Firefox because Safari was not working well on Etsy.

I use Chrome and every item that I potentially view to buy puts this box which blocks the view

Did you try another browser? I use a macbook with Chrome and have never seen that

I'm using an iMac desktop with Chrome and it is constant when I am looking to buy items

I have that also but mine says something about access exclusive deals on the app and to scan the QR code. I am using a IMac with chrome.

Same here, iMac with Chrome, I guess it's just driving me crazy with the constant and insistent pop up, I just leave instead of making a purchase. It feels like someone is in my space and watching me. Getting old I guess!

@kelleystreetstudio  It is a very large, in your face pop up, it has been bugging me for the last few days. Hopefully a test that will go away soon. BTW, your shop was one of the first shops I admired when I came to Etsy.

Well I can buy an item, that isn't my issue. It is that Etsy puts this big box that has to be clicked away before I can get to the item. For each item I view the box pops up again and again. Frankly I just don't need anything that badly any more, Etsy is making a buy more trouble than it is worth. I tried to get in touch with them but they don't have a bot for that so no answer from Etsy

I know the popup, Etsy is pushing the app. That popup is constant and intrusive. I use a pc, so I am able to x out of it. Sorry it is causing you trouble.

It is intentional by Etsy, Josh is really proud of the pushy nature to get people to use the app.

I get the big green pop up advertising the App. You can just click on the X and it goes away for a while. Are you not seeing the X? It's in the top right hand corner.

Yes I do see the X but why should I have to click and do work for Etsy when I am trying to buy and give them some business, this box comes right back again when I look at another item, I am just too busy trying to run a business to bother with that, it is Etsy's job to take care of it. This box doesn't belong on desk top systems and Etsy needs to start making more effort to accommodate customers, both buyers and sellers

@kelleystreetstudio it is an annoyance - 100% True! but it does go away if you click on it.

the same way others click it away when they want to buy your listing.

etsy is very click heavy since the new listing format appeared.

I also get this pop-up every time I click on an item, so I've given up.  It's been doing this for around a week for me.  I'm on my laptop so I can click the X to get rid of it, but as soon as I go to look at another item, it comes back, so if I look at 10 items, I get the pop up 10 times and have to X it out 10 times - I'm absolutely sick of it.

That is exactly right! I expect a marketplace site to make it attractive for a customer to browse and buy, I just go elsewhere now and I've been buying lots on Etsy since 2008

This is a little different but still. I hope, on the subject. Every single time I do a search for something I get a  page with the "spinning" wheel thing and a pop up saying "verifying the device". then a big grren check mark that says "device verified" and then it takes me to search--EVERY single time.

I keep wondering what the heck is this and why does my device need "verifying" EVERY SINGLE TIME?  Can I not use a different device? What if I use one at the library?  Not only is it EXTREMELY annoying--I do not know what it is even doing or "verifying"?

I get that too. I am always verified each time, but I also use two different laptops to access Etsy at home, so I don't know if it's because of that. Annoying, but I only see it one time and then every other search I do, it doesn't come up until the next day.

Also I only use the one device--my PC. I just find it really strange. Wonder exactly "what" they are "verifying.

Purple Puppy - Well I don't have that one, sounds horrible. I have to admit that all this verifying of devices, password checking, passwords for my passwords and whatever else is coming along next is driving me away at times, especially since it doesn't do anything but bring me more unwanted spams, voice mails, hacking attempts and less business. I find myself constantly looking for fresh solutions and it isn't social media sites, they have become the worst of nightmares with a constant flow of scam attempts so for now I'll stick with Etsy, just wish they would be more communicative and supportive.

I think maybe all of the technology is getting to me, maybe to all of us, I can't keep up any more, I can't upgrade on my ipad now without deleting most of the apps and then reinstalling again after Apple has installed an upgrade that I don't want or have need of, my iphone doesn't work half the time because it's old, my desktop computer doesn't want to open Chrome on the first try and it is the browser that I like best and buying new devices is out of the question at this time for me and most everyone else out there. I think we are all just plain weary of what is happening in the world, no matter what stance we take personally. I know I'm ready for a bit of lightness and cheerful chat in my daily routine.

That QR code pop up is incredibly annoying, but you can "x" out of it

I simply x out of it.  There should be an x in the right hand corner.  However people have reported that IPad is not so user friendly for some things.

I don't like the pop up but it only takes a 2nd to x it out.  I don't let it deter me from shopping as the sellers are not the problem and I want to support them.
