I've received two emails indicating that I had turned on Etsy ads and have been charged for them. I did not turn on ads! I've gone in and "paused" the ads, but am worrying that this will keep happening. Also I've been charged for this. Can anyone advise me? Is Etsy aware this is happening?
Hello!

You must have clicked them by mistake
Probably not--I saw this has happened to several others a few days ago--and some of these were old time regulars in here, who know what they are doing and how it works.
I most definitely did not turn them on. I never even look at that page.
@NanaLetha nope, this is happening to tons of people, some of them more than once. It's been reported repeatedly in the forum and elsewhere.
My ads keep turning on after I’ve turned them off and I even messaged customer support about it. I have two stores and the newest one hasn’t had any sales in the last year. Etsy keeps suspending the account. It’s very frustrating.
I saw a post about this a couple of days back and it has happened to several people (fortunately not me==YET!). Anyway it was suggested to check every single day to make sure they are not turned back on mysteriously.
I doubt this is something Etsy is going to "fix" soon--I would be grateful you caught it early!
I've been selling on Etsy for 12 years and this has never happened before.
Lots of things have happened recently that have never happened before.
This is one of a multitude!
I believe others have been able to be reimbursed for this, so contact support and let them know what happened. You're not the first one it has happened to. I'm sure you can find the other posts here in case you need evidence that it's not a one-off glitch.
Did you relist expired or inactive items recently? In some of mine, Etsy Ads option was ON by default. I had to turn it off manually.
To check if you have any running Ad campaigns, go to your Shop Manager - Marketing - Etsy Ads.
I would also suggest to check Shipping Settings / Order processing schedule regularly to be sure you don't have to process orders on weekends and holidays.
@Natalya1905 I thought that at first but I was renewing a listing an item that had sold a week ago and I haven't had an ad campaign running sine Christmas
It happened to me a week or so ago. They had been turned on for 3 days before I received an email from Etsy "Welcome to Etsy Ads" or something similar. I turned them off right away. Weird.....(I have been an Etsy seller for many years).
Happening to me 3 times in the last 2 days, I've been charged $2.97 which would be fine if I actually got an order. Selling here for 11 years and has never happened before.
Multiply this over millions of shops and etsy is making a pile of extra money.
@SpottedDog1 It doesn't seem to be happening to most shops, fortunately. I first wrote about this over 2 weeks ago, and not a lot of people came forward to say they experienced it.
Make sure you ask Etsy for a refund! They are more likely to fix bugs if it is costing them money & Support time.
@cindylouwho2 oh I intend to! I pay enough money to them and spend even more in time trying to fix what they seem intent on breaking. As I read on another post an outfit this established seems to spend an awful lot of time trying fix things that aren't broken. I get upgrades as related to changes in technology but you have to be sure of the computer science software before you start effing with people's livelihoods. Too many people seem to be having a negative affect on this platform, granted not everyone of they sure heck would be doing something to fix it. You can't be perfect all of the time but be strong enough to admit when you aren't hitting the mark. All we ever seem to get are crickets. Don't even get me started on the listings being pulled by bots, that's a whole other rant.
ok good not just me that this happened to, seems that this is part of the new etsy they are implementing
It has happened twice. First a couple of weeks ago and again this morning.
I've been selling for many years and this is a new thing.
Just happened to me, woke up this morning and saw the email. Charged me $1 a day for 2 days, tried a chat, what a joke. Been here 13 years, I've never used etsy ads. As someone previously mentioned, multiple shops with small amounts adds up quickly. Gonna try etsy contact us support....
It happened to me on my newish site about a week ago, but not on my main shop. I complained and they gave my money back. So far, it hasn't happened again.
I've had the same thing happen. 4 clicks - 78p which I have not authorised!!!
Contact support if you have not already and request a credit.
@CozyExpressions I have but I received a ridiculous response saying something along the lines of 'oh, don't worry - we see that you have turned ads off now so you won't be charged for any further clicks'. So how do I get refunded for the clicks that I didn't even request?
get ahold of them again and demand you get credited.
