Hey,
I got an email almost immediately after I'd made a sale saying 'Message:

PS: The message in question did not come from Etsy, and we have already actioned the account attempting to impersonate admin.
I replied with my email address and whilst the email was actually pretty well done, the email account was some dodgy one with a portuguese address and the Insta links etc didn't do anything.
Anyway, I didn't click on the 'confirm identity' or any other clickable link and they shouldn't have anything except for my email address, I'm just wondering if there's anything I need to do?
I went through the Help section on Etsy and clicked 'Need more help' after going to the Spam section, but it said a reply could take 1-2 days, so thought I should ask here first
Many thanks.
I wouldn't worry about it. They count on you replying to the email to engage the scam.

Ok, I won't
Thanks!
I don't see what they can do with your email address. Just watch for spam messages in your email.
True. Tbh, my email address would be really easy to find anyway. I've marked the emails they sent as spam and reported the account on Etsy so hopefully that's the end of it. Thanks for the reply
Since you sort of "fell" for the first attempt expect to get many more of these, so watch out! Your name is probably on some sort of "list" now.
Good for you for recognizing this as a scam attempt.
haha, probably a list of potentially gullible people! I think I had in my head some conversations I was having a little while ago about Etsy freezing your account and the message coming right after a sale (hadn't had one in like 2-3 days) made me think it was legit.
Thanks for the heads-up though. I'll make sure to check the 'From Etsy' box next time that I've just found out about.
I'm sorry you were hit with this. Scammers have been targeting new Sellers as well as seasoned ones. They are using "Verification" as one of the scams. I'm glad you didn't give them banking info. They have been impersonating Etsy Support/Staff, etc., with fake logos as well. If the Message is not in the "From Etsy" Folder, Mark it as Spam (so you don't get dinged for Star Seller).
Also just in case, if a FAKE Buyer tells you they need your email to complete an Order, they don't (Etsy already has it). When you receive a TRUE Order, it will appear in "Orders & Shipping" (Left Column of your Shop Dashboard). If you don't see it there, you don't have an Order.
Hope this is helpful to you.
That was helpful, I'll watch out for that in future. Thank you!
Hi,
I've just received exactly the same message and I also confirmed my email address. I also made a sale earlier but I am not a new seller.
Below is the next message that they sent for verification but I got suspicious because they want me to re-enter my card details including the last CVV numbers.

Whenever a message appears to be from Etsy, always first check your Etsy messages on the site (not the app) before responding. Look for the From Etsy subheading under Messages and click that. If the message does not appear in that From Etsy section, it is not from Etsy. Mark as spam.
Scammers tactic is to panic or excite someone into moving fast. That's why the bank and credit card scams work so well. "Someone just tried to withdraw money from your account was it you? If not click here". We are all served best by NOT PANICKING or reacting quickly. THINK till we are CALM and let reason prevail. It's the moving too quickly that gets ya.
Thank you for your advice, it was very useful
Just got one now. Cut and pasted into Google. Thank you.
I'm concerned that ETSY don't seem to be able to stop this coming through as a ETSY message as this happened to me today and also a variation of it earlier this week. It seems that more robust checking is needed when people set up accounts - whether as buyer or a seller! Also is there anywhere we should send these fraudulent messages to ?
You could try to send them to Etsy help but really I think they abandon them once they don't work, so I'm not sure it would be worth your while. Just keep watch as they seem to change up the dialog.
Same here, however they picked the wrong apple out the bunch. This is the information I have received. It is completely a scam
I think I got the same thing. They messaged me through the app and I gave them my email but never received the verification email. I email support to get the email but now I’m thinking it is a scam too.
@SouthernCharmsByShae That wasn't Etsy Support; it was a scammer. They have been using Verification as a scam. Along with threats of suspension and QR Codes. When you get a LEGIT Message from Etsy Support, in the Seller App, it will have a colored blurb of text on the Message, saying "From Etsy". If it doesn't say that, it isn't from Etsy.
When you in a browser, LEGIT Messages from Etsy will be in the "From Etsy" Folder. All else, Mark as Spam (so you don't get dinged for S Seller).
If you gave them your email (thinking it was Etsy Support), I would run virus scans on all of your devices, to be on the safe side.
Hope this helps you.
I've just received a message from etsy too. They have suspended my account and telling me to click on the QR code to verify my account
Reading about these scam messages I'm not going to plus there not in my "from etsy" messages
