Error with "save and continue" button under Payment settings in new shop

Jump to solution

I have a new site and part of the setup process requires that the "Save and continue" button under "Payment settings" is clicked on to enable customers to complete their credit card purchases. When I click on the button nothing happens. I logged a call for this error over a month ago. It is a technical issue (not browser or pc related) which they have said the software engineers are looking at. But I have chased ETSY support 8 or 9 times both by phone, email, and chat, and their is still no solution or progress on it. It is extremely frustrating as nothing can be purchased on the site as a customer will get any error.  Anyone else have this issue ? One of the emails from support said other people were having the same problem?

I have never heard of this problem before and I would have thought that if it is greyed out or unresponsive it is probably because it hasn't been completed properly to allow you to continue rather than a technical glitch.

Are you able to make any adjustments to double check you have entered everything correctly?   If so, have a read of this article and go through the process step by step to see if you can make a difference.

Maybe a mod can step in to help you? @FabioMcMustache

I hope it gets sorted soon.

Thanks for the response. But it has been confirmed with support that it's a tech issue.

Yes I am having the same problem! It is incredibly frustrating and disheartening to hear that it's been over a month, hoping that it gets resolved soon because I cannot sell anything

I have chased them about this over 10 times. As a new Etsy seller I'm dissaponted with their lack of progress.

Any updates with your issue ? None with mine, it's still not fixed.

I am a new seller, and I am having similar issues.  In August I discovered that customers could not make purchases because "all payment methods for this shop are temporarily unavailable".  It took me a month of working through Etsy Support to get to a root cause (a glitch on their end).  In September, Etsy let me know that "our engineering partners are aware....we don't have a time frame when this issue will be resolved".  It is now November.  I plan to close my shop, as it is useless if no one can make payments.  Some things I have learned through the process:

1.  Once Etsy signs off in the customer service chat window, it will be frozen until the issue is resolved.  You can continue typing, but there will be no answer.  At that point, you will need to switch to email support.

2.  Email customer service begins with bots.  You need to reply that the canned response has not addressed your issue and eventually you will be contacted, via email, by an actual customer support person.  I have been told (and it seems to be true) that every time you respond to the thread, you go to the back of the line.  SO - don't keep emailing asking for updates.  Wait for a response from Etsy and then reply to that.  This does mean that response times will be days to weeks and so you will be dealing with a new customer support person each time.

3.  There is no way for you to contact tech support directly.  You will only ever be in touch with customer support.  So each time you get a new customer support contact, you may need to refresh them on the situation - that it is actually a TECHNICAL issue on Etsy's end.  Not something that you can act on yourself.

4.  As part of troubleshooting the problem, I had a relative try to make a purchase and then had them put in a request to customer support.  I learned that Etsy's response times to buyers are faster.  Also, when it became apparent that the issue was not a simple one that could be solved by the buyer or the shop, Etsy did a helpful little search and shared links to similar products in different shops, so that the customer could buy something.  Just not from me.

My conclusion is that a certain number of new sellers, such as ourselves, are caught up in this glitch....but there are not enough of us for this to be a high priority for Etsy to fix.  Presumably they have enough sellers and feel they can afford to loose us.  Also, they have no problem in getting money FROM me.  They have successfully obtained my shop opening fee and my listing fees, so no problems on their end.

I'm sorry I don't have more positive information to share...  I have currently opened a new support request (they closed the old one once they identified that my issue is a known problem) and I am asking for an update on timing.  I am still at the "talk to the bot" stage, so it may be a few more weeks before I get to talk to an actual customer service representative....

Thanks for the information. I'm experiencing a similar lack of response from them. I've asked them to escalate this to management several times and nothing happens. Like yourself I paid listing fees and a fee to open the site, but it seems like I paid for a site that is inoperable. I'm sure I am already missing potential Xmas sales because of this. So far Etsy has provided a terrible customer service experience.

I agree.  I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.....but MANY other people have done that, so I don't hold out much hope.  I will also post on Reddit, just to let other sellers know about this problem.

Yes. That was my next step filing a complaint with BBB. I'm beginning to think I've wasted months and months of creating and posting work on a site that doesn't function.

Unfortunately, I am still working through the lower tiers of cust. support to see if I can get back to someone who can talk about the technical issue.  I expect to close my shop within the next month.  No point when it doesn't work.

Not sure if you found a solution.. I had exactly the same problem tonight when creating my shop. Eventually after trying many things, what worked for me was to download a different browser and continue filling out the form there. Safari didn't work for me. Google Chrome did. Hope this helps.

It may not make a lot of sense but try putting your first and last name in the "First Name" window. This way it will display your full name in the bottom of the page where you enter the bank info. Otherwise only first name is displayed and it is causing the glitch.
