Email not accepted

Just started a shop and had an email saying I had a sale but the payment had not gone through due to a ‘technical problem’ and asked me to put in my email address in the reply. But when I do this it says there’s no one with that email in Etsy! In spite of the message coming from them into my email account! Been querying it for 5 days now without any response. What’s happening?? Scam maybe? I also had a ‘buyer’ wanting to buy outside Etsy, obviously a scam when I researched her!

Re: Email not accepted

This is a scam that has been targeting new sellers. By not allowing you to respond, Etsy has blocked the scammers. Unless the sale is showing on your dashboard and in your payment account, it’s not real. You should mark the message as spam. I’m sorry, I know how disappointing it must be. Here’s a recent forum thread you should take a look at:

Re: Email not accepted

Sorry, it's a SCAM. You got an error message because Etsy has already deleted their account.

Don't give out your email address - buyers don't need it.

Don't give your payment card details to anyone even if it looks like Etsy. Always double check by going to your Etsy shop manager and see if there's a banner telling you to update something.I

Scrutinise any email you get asking for personal details and don't click on any links - instead go directly to the website or app and log in normally to check your account.

Re: Email not accepted

Sadly, it was a scammer pretending to be from Etsy.  Etsy would never ask for your email address, they already have it.  This is what they do:

  1. Ask for your email address so they can get you off Etsy.  That is because they send the same message to dozens of people and Etsy will eventually catch that and close it down.  Once it is off-Etsy, the scammers can start with their scam.
  2. There are various scams going on, some are phishing for your login info so they can hack and steal your Etsy shop, some want your bank account or credit card info so they can steal your money, others will talk you into sending them money directly, some will send a link with malware to hack your computer or your phone.  Some are likely committing multiple thefts.

You are a new shop, and new shops are scammers favorite targets.  To protect yourself, keep all conversations on Etsy, and know that all sales will show on your shop dashboard.  Any payments will show in under Finances in your Shop Payment Account.

Good luck.
