I always write a note to my buyers. Etsy now has a feature to save the notes to be able to easily use again. I don't need to save my notes since I write a personal note to each one of my buyers. It is unclear if I don't save it, if it goes through to the buyer. I hit Enter and it doesn't highlight or anything. Will my customer get my note if I don't save it?
I was wondering the same thing.
That's what is unclear to me too. I wish they had left this as it was. What I am doing is changing the name for each buyer (with the same message, or adjusted slightly as needed) and then saving it. So I'm going to end up with an enormous list of saved messages all with different names. Maybe I just have to de-personalise it and not put "Dear Name" at the beginning, but that is not my preference.
I agree. I do the same thing. So now I have a growing list of messages with different names. I wish they just left things alone. It worked perfectly fine the old way.
It's incredibly irritating that Etsy has broken a feature that was working perfectly well previously
Agree and they make it more difficult because you can't figure it out! There are no clear instructions.
Etsy likes to break features that work, so it gives them something to do, honestly the techs have no clue what we need to run our business as they have nover sold anything online.
"It's incredibly irritating that Etsy has broken a feature that was working perfectly well previously"
That's an Etsy specialty!
I wrote my message out and didn't hit save. Went to preview and my note was there. So I hit sent and checked my email and my note was there.
What "preview?" When I preview my shipping label before purchasing it, it doesn't show ME my note, only what I am purchasing. 1 label, Priority mail, $17, for example. Then I hit "purchase."
The notes to buyer that I did yesterday were in the email without me saving them.
As said above, it seems that you don't have to save it, just type what you want to put in the message box and it will be included in the email that goes to the buyer.
For those with lots of orders, it's good to have the save option.
I type a new message to each buyer, too, because my shop is not high volume.
Once again, an "improvement" that makes things worse and less clear.
What are you talking about? The note in the shipping notification? @MadGirlRetro
@AnnaleasFinest when you are buying your shipping label. When you're filling it out. The top of the page says "Delivery Information for order 1 of 1." All the way to the right it says, "Note to Buyer." Then it says, Add Note," in grey. I usually just fill that out and hit enter and you can see it's saved. Then the new thing, it says, "Choose Note." Then there is an empty box below it so you can write a note if you are not choosing a note from your saved notes (I don't save notes, I don't need to save notes) and that's where it's unclear. When you write the note, when you hit enter on your keyboard, it just goes down another sentence, doesn't take you out of that box which previously would have now been highlighted indicating it's saved like the dimensions and shipping service were saved. I hope that makes sense.
thank you, surely, this is about Etsy labels...
We can't buy those in Germany. We buy our labels directly from DHL, Hermes, etc.
For example, to ship internationally, sellers usually make a business contract with DHL, etc.
My shipping monitor has changed to the better, recently...
I am blindsided as well! what note? somebody please toss in a link to this new disaster?
It's not new, It's the same note to buyer
It's what has always been there,
except now, if you change it, you don't have to hit the save button,
It's gone back to what it was like a year or so ago.
order - mark as complete - at the top
.... note to buyer at top, when you mark as complete .......
The new note does not have to be saved, they've gone back to doing it the way it was before.
I regularly forgot to save it, when they first changed from not having to save it, to having to save it,
They've now changed it back.
I prefer it this way
I'm confused. I never have to mark anything "complete." I buy the label from Etsy. I fill in the size, weight, what service I want to buy, etc. Write a little note that goes to my buyer when she gets the email telling her it's been shipped. Review my label purchase. Hit "Purchase label." It puts it in my Completed Orders automatically.
I was confused too, lol.
European buyers are not enrolled in Etsy labels. We print and pay our labels from local providers, and have to add the tracking number manually and mark as "complete".
When you mark as complete, there is a note you can edit at the top, that note goes out with the dispatch e-mail,
Firstly, if you canaged it, you didn't have to save
then etsy changed it, so you did have to save
now they've changed it back again.
Etsy labels are rubbish, they don't even have royal mail tracked, or international tracked, I never use them.
I get a copy of the dispatch e-mail, it's definitely on there
I'm glad I'm not the only one who is not sure if our note gets sent to the customer if we don't go through the saving process. Luckily I just got an order from a repeat customer who I have gotten friendly with. I can ask her if she gets my note if I don't save it. I'll report back.
@MadGirlRetro - I don't use Etsy labels, but had to deal with this a couple times now. Even if a note has been previously saved, I found it confusing the way it is set up. Was not sure I was even choosing the correct note.
I saw that too, MadGirl, so I checked it this way.
Go to the completed order, then click on the number under their name, then on more details by the USPS in transit you can see what you sent. So no, you don't have to save it if you don't want to. I have Hi saved as that is how I start out my personalized note to each customer.
