Ok so weird, this is the second time this has happened. I get an inquiry on my phone, and because my computer is in the shop and sometimes I'm too lazy (lol) or it's the middle of the night I promise to get back to someone in the morning and when I go to find the message .... whoosh, it's gone. Disappeared, as if it never existed. And it's gone from my phone as well, the first time I thought it was my imagination but it happened again last night, customer must think I don't care about them. I can't find the message ANYWHERE. Anyone else have this happen?
No, spam folder, I didn't know I had one after 7 years being here lol I will go find that. Thanks everyone, for your replies.
Etsy may have detected the message was from a spammer and deleted it.
I agree I think these must be SCAMS. I have not had this happen to any of my messages. Be sure to check the Spam folder in case they got moved there though.
There is definitely some weird stuff going on with messages! I had a help request a few minutes after receiving an order, asking for a switch to a different option. I replied immediately, “no problem, I’ll make the requested change”. Customer answered “great, thanks!”. The next day I get ANOTHER email notification for that same help request, and how it was important that I answer, and otherwise the customer could open a case against my shop blah, blah. I went into my messages, and my reply and the customer’s response had both disappeared! Only the help request itself was there, but in the little circle it did show a message count of 3, so clearly the initial exchange of messages did register somewhere, and I wasn’t having a senior moment! So I answered it a second time, explaining that there was a messaging glitch.

I have a very long message thread with my daughter's other shop that's been going on for years. She told me yesterday that when she went to message me about something, the thread was gone. She found it in her spam folder. Why??
I have that exact same situation.
And it happens over and over. At least once a week I find the thread in Spam. And every time I mark it Not Spam.
Still happening.
I message a few friends all the time and about once a week a thread that has been ongoing for a while (several years) gets put in either my spam folder OR my friends spam folder.
Even though I mark and they mark "NOT SPAM" our messages still end up in spam.
No rhyme or reason as to why.
Sometimes I get "Yay! Your item is in my Treasury!" messages from 2013-14. Never in spam always in the Inbox. :))

I had a thread get corrupted such that the customer and I could see a preview of the messages we sent each other, but if we clicked on the message it wasn't there. Support just told me to delete the thread and start over. Lots of lost message history. (if this happens to you, try opening the message history via an order, that sorta worked for downloading the history)
