I get an error message when logging in. In the past I just clicked the button again and it worked. Now the button is grayed out preventing me from using it. Error message and grayed out login button. Browser - Firefox version 100.0 (64 bit).
Same thing happening to me for the past week or so. Thought it was just me.

This has been happening to me also. Chrome, desktop, Windows 11. I usually just hit the sign in tab again. This morning it didn't work (had the message in red that a error had occurred once again) so I pressed the refresh button, it removed all my sign in information and I had to enter it again. Usually works the second time. Another Etsy error, the kids are playing again.
Yes, I do believe the kids are playing. First I couldn’t sign in, then if I hit sign in a second time it let me in. Today though, it keeps trying to make me sign in with Google. I cannot find an option through the help center to report it.
This sounds very worrying. You must have been beside yourself.
So I finally found a way to “chat”with an Etsy rep and miraculously my sign in now works perfectly on both my shops. Apparently a known issue. Hope it lasts!

You did very well finding a way to chat with an Etsy rep. I've managed a few times but it is almost impossible to do. I'm waiting for a response via email. So you mean you chatted with a bot? This multiple click sign in is getting frustrating.

This has also been happening to me for a few weeks now. It doesn't happen every time I sign in...happens maybe 80% of the time though.

No, I don’t think I chatted with a bot. I do believe it was a real person. He really couldn’t do much for me except for the usual suggestion of clearing cache, cookies etc. which of course I had already tried. In the end he forwarded my concerns to the technical team. They want a screenshot. Not sure what that would tell them as it only says “an error has occurred, please try again”. Also, they want me to try a different browser which I have not done yet. It is still happening but not every time. Now I have to X out of the sign in page and when I bring up Etsy again it is signed in and open.
I have this issue on Different browsers, so I'm not sure the browser makes a difference....
Wondering when this will be fixed? It's been weeks now...
Same thing here almost every time I log in lately. Usually its the error thing and I have to type in my password a second time, or sometimes I get the thing to click that I'm not a robot, or something. Annoying....

I discovered a few days ago that if you get the error message, rather than signing in again, just hit the reload/refresh button and after it reloads, you will be signed in to Etsy.

I do the same as you. When I get the Error Banner, I hit Refresh and I'm in (it's happened before).
I didn't get the Banner earlier yesterday, but when I Signed Out and came back in the evening, I received it again upon Sign In (Refreshed and was on Etsy).

@ChillwolfArt - most of the time I get the error message but once in a while I get signed in without the error message. I am using Chrome, Windows 11, same computer which is an all in one desktop. Guess it is another one of Etsy's uh-oh's.

I'm with you. Didn't get the Banner this morning. I never use anything but the same computer, browser, OS, etc. for everything Etsy.
(Before it was the intermittent Captcha issues which thankfully stopped.; but the IP Provider was working in the area a few days. Have no idea if it was connected to that).
A complete joke. All the work arounds we have to come up with in order to use this site. Those higher fees sure have made things better. lol
