Default Billing Card

For the past 12 years my Etsy account has been linked directly to my checking account. I do have a default billing card listed as well for when I make purchases. Recently I keep getting a notice that my default billing card is no good. I have replaced it multiple times and I still keep getting the notice. Now they are holding my funds. What is going on?

Re: Default Billing Card

etsy billing has never been linked directly to a bank account

you have always had to have a card number

If that card, is a debit card, then the debit card provider takes it from your bank, not Etsy

default billing card, is for paying etsy fees, or refunds if not enough is in available to deposit
you need to have the correct card number, with matching name, and correct expiry date here

Re: Default Billing Card

You need to enter the new card in your billing section - then after a day, make it the default.  Not sure why it's not working for you - or how you went without for so long.  Maybe you had a debit card linked to your bank instead?

Re: Default Billing Card

The payment card on file for purchases is separate to the payment card on file for billing your shop. So whilst you may have updated the purchases card, the shop billing card might be out of date. If your shop billing card is out of date, Etsy will not pay your deposits into your bank account.

I have had the same thing happening. I’ve contacted them numerous times.

Re: Default Billing Card

I guess that is my next option, kinda done with putting the same info in every week, and then they hold funds. Just crazy.

@WildBlossomApparel  and @MaineCoonCrafts

Did you read above what @Amaradorn  posted? There are 2 different places to enter cards--one for payment cards and one for billing cards. Did you perhaps enter the wrong place or only one place?

I always check and enter both places when updating my card.

I know--it can be very confusing.

Re: Default Billing Card

This keeps happening to me too and it’s driving me insane!! Also the advice from other posters here is exactly like what happens when trying to talk to customer service about this. YES it’s a valid card, it’s a debit card, the bank account has funds, the card is set up for purchases as well as billing. I thought maybe the issue was having it set up for auto billing but it doesn’t make a difference. It’s the same card I’ve had for a long time. I have this card set up for billing on other sites and it doesn’t have an issue there. I’ve had my shop for just shy of TWENTY YEARS and the bank account for almost as long. I found your post because it just happened to me againnnnn, happens about every other week or so.

Re: Default Billing Card

@cordialkitten   If your card is a debit card make sure it has a CC logo on it. It has to act like a credit card.  Not all debit cards do.
