Like several others my shop has been frozen since last Monday, March 24th. The reason given was "Update your legal and tax information with a valid Social Security Number or Employer Identification Number to sell on Etsy." My SSN had not changed, My Name had not changed it was all correct. I have checked my tax forms from Etsy themselves and it is still the same as it was last year, and the year before. I contacted Etsy via email and spoke with 3 people, they insisted my shop information was not correct and I was trying to transfer my shop from my wife to myself. Then I spoke with "Charlie" via a call back and he could not help me. Everyone has said, to give it 24 to 48 hours, or that they are passing on the information. I am now on day 7 and Nothing. What am I supposed to do now?
If you tried to change the owner of the shop that is what caused the hang up. Shops cannot be transferred. At any point did the information get confused? If you started the shop then you are the owner, not your wife and the bank account and SSN has to be yours.
There was another shop trying to change ownership between husband and wife and I wonder if your shop has gotten mixed up with that one. I don't recall the name of the shop or what they sold. But stranger things have been known to happen on Etsy.
If you still have the email, reply back that you still need help. Did you supply them with your phone number? Ask a supervisor to call you.
Don't bother with chat. They have minimal roles with things of this nature.
@ModAngie @ModKenneth @ModJose Would you be able to help this person? Thank you.
But I didn't try to change the shop owner, the shop was always in my name going back 11 years. Etsy has always mailed everything to me and all tax documents sent from Etsy are in my name and SSN. Monday all our shop info got mixed up by etsy. Everything now on Etsy is in my wife's maiden name, a name she changed, before we even started the shop and her name was in the Legal name field with my SSN still in the Tax ID field.
Basically Someone somewhere on Etsy's end botched something in the database that held this data and screwed everything up.
But here's the thing, I don't care who the shop owner is my name, my wife's name, it doesn't matter to us, what matters is that Etsy support isn't fixing it so we can open back up. We've provided DL for me and DL for her and copies of our marriage certificate. At this point it should be fixed.
They have all the data they need, and they haven't communicated anything back other than they're "working on it". Working on WHAT?? This is a 2 minute fix for a competent human to look at the requested documentation and update the database to reflect the correct values.
Instead I'm sitting here a week later, my shop still closed and no one can provide a timeline or a explanation of why things haven't been corrected. No one has even actually verified back to me that they have all the information they need.
@Geek2Geek Has your shop gone through the verification process yet?
Our Primary Taxpayer ID still shows as "Pending verification" and the shop still has the Verify your Identity in 55 days banner.
@Geek2Geek From what I understand you need to Verify your shop FIRST. It sounds like if she is the legal owner then if you (spouse) submitted your DL as well as hers it might be confusing the situation. You might want to try and resubmit just her DL and see if you can get the Verification part done. Once you submit her DL you should get a verification notification within 8 hours.
I've tried submitting in every combination and still no luck. Part of the problem is that for some unknown reason everything is defaulting to her maiden name, which was changed the year before we even opened the shop so we've had to submit our marriage certificate too. This whole situation is dumb. A real person could look at the documents and verify them in 30 seconds. We are a moderately successful shop that was growing at a good pace and Etsy doesn't care about us at all. They are wasting my time and costing us significant amounts of revenue and they just don't seem to care enough to do anything.
Were you able to get this resolved? I am having the same problem.
@WoolSpinEwe Rather than appending to old threads, it would be better to start your own.
