I have ended coupon offers from being sent out, but Etsy is not allowing me to deactivate old coupon codes. I continue to have customers use them. They used to have a deactivation button, but it is no longer there. What's going on?
Upon checking, I found that you cannot deactivate a promo code that is paused. You need to reactivate it first by going to Shop Manager > Marketing > Sales and discounts, finding the paused code, and selecting "Reactivate." Then, you can deactivate it by selecting "Deactivate code."

That did not work.
Yes, this did not work. I cannot believe Etsy has done this to sellers. In the past I could always deactivate codes at any time , so end datesxwere not necessary. Etsy could fix this issue by adding the deactivation button again, but for some reason, refuses to do so.
I don't see a "deactivate code" code after reactivating. What am I missing?
I know this thread is 2 weeks old but I cannot for the life of me find the "deactivate code" the solution is referring to. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing?
I could not find it either. Customers are using this over and over again!
If you are referring to the targeted Thank You and Abandoned Cart codes, deactivating does not stop them from being used it only stops them from being sent out. A buyer can use a Thank You code for a year after they receive it. An Abandoned Cart coupon is good for 60 days.
Edited to add: You can only reactivate targeted coupons which means Etsy will start sending them again, Regular coupons, when deactivated, are done forever and immediately cannot be used by anyone. The only way to reactivate them is to recreate them and use the same coupon code.
If any of your coupons or discount codes or promos were set up without an end date ... they cannot be deactivated, but you can pause them (won't be sent out anymore, but can still be used).
You definitely CAN deactivate a promo code that has no end date. That is all you can do with them. The only codes that can be paused are targeted coupons (Thank You, etc.).
@NoFrogsAllowed -- yes, targeted offers, that is what I actually meant to say! Thanks for the correction! I have learned my lesson to never created a no-end-date offer again ... although mine are paused (because they cannot be deactivated), I still get orders using those promo codes.
Thank you and abandoned cart coupons will eventually expire, but Etsy still hasn't set an expiration on favorites coupons.
