I have a customer who is trying to purchase 3 items from my shop. She states she gets an error message each time she tries. She states her card is good and that is not the issue.
This is the message she receives.
Sorry, there was an error. Please try again.
If the seller you're purchasing from accepts PayPal, you can try using that.
Any ideas?
If the shopper is trying to buy as a guest, they might be mistyping one or more pieces of information required - credit card number, expiration, address, etc. Or it could be a glitch - ask them to try again in a few hours.
If the shopper has an Etsy account they should have a credit card on file to use. If it has been used in the past, the issue is most likely on Etsy's end, so ask them to try again in a little bit.
If the shopper is from outside the US, they might be trying to use a payment method not accepted by Etsy for their location. Ask them to ensure they are using, or to create, an Etsy account.
A third possibility is the shopper is trying to get you to sell outside of Etsy where you will lose any protection Etsy offers and be easier to run a scam. Not accusing, just pointing out the possibility.
Thank you. I will contact her and ask.
@purplepelicangifts Any time I have seen the "error / please try again" message on Etsy, it usually is only temporary, and trying again in a few minutes usually works.
However - seeing that part about Paypal is sending alarms bells to me - I have not seen or heard that before, and makes me think something else is going on.
She stated that she tried to order something last night from another shop and got the same message. It must be something she is doing on her end. Thanks for your reply:)
