Chat flags are continually wrong, says this buyer has not messaged you before when they have, etc...

For the last few weeks the internal flags added by Etsy to chats from customers are consistently wrong. They say 'this buyer has not messaged you before' when they clearly have, or the translate button shows up when it's not needed, or the translate button does not show when it is needed, or there's a note saying 'message from potential buyer' when the buyer has already purchased from my shop. What the heck is going on? This used to work correctly?

It's consistently wrong on app as well as site.

I have an ongoing conversation that still has the "first message from a potential buyer" flag on it, and I get the "good work for a quick reply" each time I reply to this same message. Others have had the trouble too, for example:

I had a returning customer get flagged as a "first message" recently, he wanted the same custom item so I had to go and find our old conversation to verify what we discussed. It had his order history correct and his account hadn't changed, so not sure why it didn't combine the messages...but now I'm not getting email notifications of new messages so I'm assuming something is changing behind the scenes (again...)
