Changes to ad spend - up or down - seem to reset algorithm?

Has anyone else noticed that if they increase (or possibly decrease) their ad spend for like 2-3 weeks they get fewer sales, possibly none. Does changing your ad budget - up or down - re-start your advertising or something? Confused. Help appreciated.

It may or may not be an issue.  It could more likely be more competition from fellow sellers who start using the ads.

Also when you make a change it can take at least 24 hours or better for the change to be fully implemented.

@BuyfromGroovy: In addition to the comments from @ArtDollsbyJD, with all of the testing and tweaking that Etsy does (particularly with Search which does affect ad visibility) it is almost impossible to make direct cause and effect correlations.

Thanks for the feedback folks. I agree that it is really and literally impossible to know about the correlations - I just see patterns and think it's not coincidence so something I am doing (or not doing) is affecting the algorithm. I will not touch my ad spend for 2 months - up or down - and report back actual findings. Even though this won't prove anything cuz we never can really, I think it might be a good indicator.  Always appreciate the feedback, thanks again!

@BagMaker - I agree that we cannot ever know 100% - heck, perhaps even 50% - what all the factors are and their interrelationships in terms of ad spend here. I just note the patterns I've seen over 10 years and come to some likely conclusions. It probably doesn't help me to try to figure it out really.

I absolutely notice if I ever make any changes to Etsy ads, it takes a while for sales to start coming in again, usually 2 to 4 weeks, so you are not wrong in noticing this pattern! In my opinion. In fact, I found this thread because I searched for that exact thing, since I too, have noticed this trend. Glad to see it's not just me.

Cuz I've been scratching my head. But yes I have noticed this time and time again. If I increase or decrease my daily spend, sales plummet for a short time. I assume it's the algorithm "readjusting ".

I've never noticed a difference, unfortunately.

This has 100% been my experience, I was gaining great momentum getting such healthy sales daily and saw not much was coming from Etsy ads so dropped my ad spend only $2 and immediately lost all momentum. I was kicking myself because I know this has happened before and takes a good few weeks to kick back into regular sales. I’ll never be touching my ad spend ever again after this! Lesson learnt! Glad I’m not the only one noticing this strange pattern

It seems to have sorted out today and is back to normal range after I spoke with online support on Friday. Anyone else experiencing this perhaps also try talking with support.
