I tried to do something and was prompted for my password... which I couldn't remember. I reset my password. The new password didn't work and kept saying "An error has occurred!"
I tried to reset the password again, and still the same thing is happening. Does anyone know what I can do next? My browser is up to date and I have no saved passwords for Etsy in my cache. As far as I know my shop/ account is in good standing.
That sounds really frustrating!
Every once in a while there is a glitch. I hope it's resolved soon.
I think it's a little weird because they didn't text me a security code for 2FA. Something seems wrong.
Recently the same thing happened to me, I couldn't log into my account, the confirmation code didn't come. It turned out that the thing is that I have two-step identification. When you turn on two-step identification, you receive 10 codes that you need to write down, when you want to log into your account, you enter the confirmation code and the account opens, in my case it helped.
@WeddingdressLarisa Do you think those 10 codes can be used again and again or only once for each code? I get contradictory information in the matter.
you can use them once per code,
You can generate another 10 new codes, anytime you are logged in, and print or save them (then you can't then use the old ones, just the new ones, once each)
Even I'm logged into my shop, when I want to access my account, account setting...I'm asked to log in, and when I fail to log into account settings (because of 2FA complications), when come back to my shop, I realize that I'm also logged out of the shop.(stuck outside of my shop, it's horrible) Thats why I don't dare to log into 'my account' anymore.
to generate 10 new codes, I think I need lo log into 'my account'
@TenGramsDesign It is now normal for Etsy to have sellers sign in again when moving from a search page, forums or their shop home page into the shop manager dashboard. It's been that way for a few months now,

You can turn off 2Fa if you want.
Fortunately, it's not what I'm experiencing. No problem for shop manager. I'm only asked to sign in when I want to access "my account" setting (when I click on my round photo up right, bottom of drop down menu : account setting )
when you set up 2fa, 10 backup codes came up, and there was an option to save them or print them if you wanted to.
You need to use one of those
Note to self - make a note of your passwords!
Update: I have a ticket with Etsy tech support, which I opened via email. They asked me to send last four digits of bank account, how many draft items in my shop, last four of CC on file and last four of taxpayer ID. I have sent them all this. I'm just waiting to find out what could be happening! I should note that as far as 2FA goes, what I mean is that I was neither texted a security code, nor prompted to enter one... because it wouldn't accept the password(s) that I had just made.
It's all so weird that I'm starting to think that someone might have tried to hack my account (although, LOL, they should have picked a store that makes more money in that case.)
@KittenMeWares As explained above, you will not be sent a code. Once you enable 2FA then you are sent 10 codes which you need to use to log in if you have forgotten your password. It is explained in this article:

@KittenMeWares What you are doing does not require 2Fa. Etsy is asking for normal security questions when tech support requires it. This has nothing to do with 2fA.

The code is sent to your email. That is what you need to check when you change your password.
They have always texted me a code, and I've had to reset my password a number of times. As I said, though, I didn't even get as far as that because the new password I made wouldn't work.
The issue is still unresolved as in I'm still waiting to hear back from Etsy tech support.
@KittenMeWares I hope they'll be quick (a few days, not weeks) I've already thought about asking etsy support to supress the 2fa in my account, If I try to do it myself I simply get stuck out of my shop. Same situation as you and not receiving any code by email or sms or whatever I select. 2fa is great : nobody can access my account, neither do I.
I hope you will tell if tech support was able to help you.
Hi! Thanks for asking. I just now got an email from tech support. They disabled 2FA on my account and said to make a new password. However... when I made a new password, it still wouldn't let me sign in! it's the same error message: "An error has occurred, please try again!"
kinda beside myself at the moment!
well the good news is they respond quickly, ask them about this last twist...it was too beautiful to be true
@KittenMeWares Clean out your cache again. You should be getting a reset password email. If you are not getting that then using the new password will fail.
Also if you use any autofill disable those.
