Canadapost sent an email out that they are accepting new shipments today (19th), but the Etsy shipping labels are still not available. Why are we not getting a firm date from Etsy? I tried to create a shipment VIA the Canadapost website and the quote was $5 more. I've tried to have customer service call me since yesterday, but an error message keeps coming up. Is anyone else getting these error messages?
It doesn't matter if there are backlogs! Canada Post is accepting parcels. It's not up to Etsy to judge whether or not Canada Post's system is ready! My customers are understanding about delays due to the strike, and just want me to get them into the system. I have no access to alternative shipping due to being in a rural location. Etsy needs to stop playing god here!
@ThriftyOwlVintage: Have you seen the latest post by Etsy on https://community.etsy.com/t5/All-About-Shipping/Updated-12-17-Canada-Post-labor-strike-What-you-nee... ?
Canada post went back to work on Monday this week
and etsy acknowledge this on Tuesday they started accepting bulk mail drop offs today
Etsy still has us shut out of buying labels
If you are determined to put buyers orders, in the mega pile of delays with canada post, then buy them direct
Etsy doesn't want buyers in that mess, but if you are determined to do it, you can, without buying the labels from etsy
There are huge delays, Canada Post says into 2025,
Etsy does not want you sending parcels into that mayhem
use a different shipper
..... etsy says For now, we are continuing to disable the option for sellers in Canada to purchase Canada Post shipping labels on Etsy while Canada Post continues to experience delays
My process at the post office yesterday was very quick and easy and the parcels have already moved. I don't have an option of using another shipper in my area, because most of my orders are US orders.
It's called P-A-T-I-E-N-C-E!!
Sellers wanted Etsy to have their back during this postal disruption...so Etsy offered options, provided advice and with held the ability to purchase Canada Post labels in an attempt to prevent further issues/problems ...Etsy is still taking that precautionary approach...
yet sellers are blaming Etsy for doing so...
can't have your cake and eat it too!
Please be patient! and allow Canada Post to work through the backlog before dumping more onto the pile that will just extend the delays for processing, transit and delivery.
Yup, I'm still frozen out. I did manage to mail the 7 packages that I labeled before the strike and freezing. The Post office wasn't busy at all, they processed the packages quickly and I left. So why the hel1 is Etsy freezing our labeling when the post office is clearly taking in packages!
I agree. I did 7 labels on the Canadapost website. There were no line ups at my post office, super fast and easy process. The packages have already moved as well.

Etsy labels aren't the only choice. If you are determined to ship, buy your labels directly from Canada Post online, or take them to your CP office.
Likely your orders won't get moving or delivered any faster than those sent next week, but it is still your choice.
Chatted with Etsy help today (Dec 20). I ship from Canada and don't have any options besides Canada post for shipping since I live in a very rural area.
Etsy help told me "For now, we are continuing to disable the option for sellers in Canada to purchase Canada post shipping labels on Etsy while Canada post continues to experience delays. We are monitoring this situation carefully and will provide an update as soon as we are confident the system is reliable for our buyers and sellers."
So I have no idea how long they plan to make us wait but its unacceptable.
It is very sensible for etsy do do this
no-one should be putting mail into a very, very backlogged system
If you are determined to put your customers orders into the Canada Post backlog, and have them spend weeks in transit, you can buy postage yourself from Canada Post
I'm sorry but people saying "no one should be putting mail into this backlogged system" are ridiculous!!
I shipped an order with Canada Post (express post) on Wednesday and it was just delivered this morning.
The mail is moving just fine, all my packages are being scanned and moving toward their destination. Etsy needs to enable shipping labels again.
@RadicalButtons1 I mailed a package on November 12th. It hasn't moved since the CP strike began on November 15th.
So no, the mail is not moving "just fine". You got lucky. But your luck doesn't mean there isn't a backlog, and it's a bit cruel to boast about how quickly your package was delivered to those of us who have been waiting for over a month for our packages to get moving.
It's not luck, it's the norm. You might be unlucky then. I have 90 packages that were stuck in the strike and every single one has moved. Canada Post is accepting packages and allowing labels to be purchased. Etsy needs to do the same.
Canada post is saying there are big backlogs,
maybe paying for express puts you in an elite queue
this is from Canada Post website
Mail and parcels are being processed on a first-in, first-out basis, meaning the items in the network the longest are processed first. On-time service guarantees continue to be suspended as we work our way back to full service levels.
With a large, integrated network of processing plants, depots and post offices across the country, stabilizing operations will take time. We remind all Canadians to expect delivery delays through the remainder of 2024 and into January 2025.
All other websites (Shopify, CP, etc.) are allowing labels to be purchased. The mail is working, CP is no longer on strike. Etsy needs to allow labels to be purchased since they literally can be scanned at the post office.
you, as a seller, can decide to put your orders/income at risk, dumping them into a backlogged system, your choice
Etsy considers buyers their responsibility too, and try to protect them best they can,
Etsy thinks it's too high a risk to send them now, by Canada Post, so they won't enable you to do it.
@CraftyCornishMaids Your comments are ridiculous. Are you suggesting that Canada Post itself shouldn't be accepting new mail? How did Etsy management decide that they know better than Canada Post? It's simple: if Canada Post is accepting parcels, then Etsy needs to enable Canada Post shipping labels. This is so frustrating!
you are not reading what I am writing
Canada post say there is a massive backlog, they have suspended their delivery times, but they will take post .... and your money...- expect big delays into 2025
Etsy, is a business, they are looking at their business and thinking of customers, and doesn't want to have their orders delayed
so your risk, not theirs
having lived through the strikes here, I definitely wouldn't send with them yet
@ThePrettyPantyDrawer @RadicalButtons1
Mind your manners!
Agreed! They are only doing it to save themselves so that they aren't on the hook if a buyer opens a case. They won't have to pay out if we've shipped/purchased a label outside of Etsy.
I agree! I have mailed parcels through another platform and they have already arrived. So I think Etsy should free up Canada Post labels now. We have already lost enough sales due to the strike.
just purchased labels through snap ship a little more than etsy with the discount they get but 17$ less than chit chats foir the same amount of packages i have to courier them to Vancouver for chit chats so there was a 1 to 5 day delay due to the courior companies been so backed up
