Since you're a new seller, there's a good chance that the message was a scam. If so, then Etsy caught it and either deleted it or put it in your spam folder.

@FableAndFiberArts: This forum is full of similar reports. As mentioned, most likely Etsy determined it was a scammer and deleted both the Message thread and the sender's account.
The actual Message is contained in the eMail confirmation sent to you by Etsy (it is just hidden). You can see what the original message was by looking at the raw content of that eMail (what is called and how to do that depends on the eMail client you use).
