As a Buyer: when I try to make a purchase I can’t remove MY phone number from shipping label. After removing from OPTIONAL setting (Bottom of credit card page) & saving, it still defaults & adds it back!! It’s happened for a few months now. Is it a glitch?
I honestly wonder if it's negatively affected shops overall, because I've personally canceled transactions as soon as I've sen my number on there.
If this is happening for you as a buyer, have you tried DELETING the default address in your account, then entering a new one? So instead of editing to remove the number, try adding a new address, don't add the phone, then set the new address as the default?
My phone number has never appeared on a shipping label. Why would that affect the shop you are buying from??
@nanaletha
Mine wasn’t on there until late last year, if I remember correctly. I’ve removed it several times, especially since it says it’s optional. I personally don’t want my unlisted number on anything...not even a postage label.
Some countries require it.
@BandRCrafting
True, but I’m in USA, buying from USA. I’m sure at a loss on how to remove it.
Some shipping companies/couriers also require it, although when the seller prints off a shipping label the seller's phone number can be used instead of the buyer's phone #and/or 000000000s in place thereof...
I've never even noticed a place for phone number before. Is it possible it's being added via your browser settings & not just Etsy settings?
@CanningCrafts
I don’t have it set up on my browser. I can see it in my CC info & have removed it several times, then saving the option, but once I reopen the page, both after refreshing & just reopening, it defaults back & reenters it. It’s so bazaar.
OP, why not try adding a fake phone number, such as used in TV shows, 800-555-1212? You could try several combinations.
Could try adding all zeros on the first try instead of a fake number. Maybe that could work?
I did try all zeros earlier, but will try another set of numbers.
Your phone number needs to be in your account for two factoor identification.
Why is your phone number even in your Etsy account? I never added mine.
@NanaLetha
Apparently, when I (finally) signed up as a seller, late 2020, a phone number was required.
Last time I got a notice to review my settings for the Inform Act, I had to enter a phone number. So I guess I may not have had a phone # prior to that either?
It has to be listed in the shipping settings under shipping label options. I use Etsy labels all the item and my phone number is never printed on the label. But the phone number is there under shipping label options and it has an asterisk which means required.
On the credit card leave it alone. That information is not related to Etsy labels and is required for other reasons.
@ArtDollsbyJD
Yes, it’s in my shipping labels (required) & account settings (for Etsy) under credit card info. I was going to enter a fake number until I read your post. Might mess things up.
Maybe I’ll ask seller, ahead of purchase, to mark out my number. I really hate it being there.
Last week I had a delivery on my porch (from another company) & 2 people were at my door when I came home. The box had a rip in the seam. My dog scared them because they said they heard him barking when they came to the stoop...supposedly needing help with their car...that suddenly recovered once hubby & adult son arrived. I wouldn’t have wanted them to have my phone number, to call & see if I was home to steal the next package.
As a Buyer? Your ph# is printing on the shipping labels other Sellers are purchasing to ship your purchased items to you? I'm not sure I am understanding.
@artbyjocelyn
Yes, me as a buyer, where items are shipped to me.

YEA!!! It worked! Thank you!
