Since customer service can't do anything about issues with Star Seller, I've been directed here.
There is no way to mark messages as "spam" from their new app. Due to this feature not being included, I now have a response rate that is blow the Star Seller threshold, as I could not get a computer before the 24 hour mark to correctly mark the message.
Technically I could delete the message, but I would like it marked spam by Etsy so it gets picked up by the system. This message was asking for free product, or a donation to their Gofundme in lieu of free product.
To be honest I find the entire program discriminatory and Etsy's attitude towards it hypocritical, but that's just me.
So just a heads up to others, you'll have to just trash those spam messages from the app now on it seems.
@TwoGiraffesAndCo: As suggested, use your (mobile) browser. If the unanswered message is not a Help Request, at least for the time being, it appears that marking an unanswered message as SPAM (even after the 24 hour deadline has passed) will cause your reply percentage to change in a day or two if the original message was within the current star seller period (but not retroactively). Note that subsequent messages from that account may go directly to the SPAM folder.
Hi, Sorry you were hit with this. I don't use the App, but have heard it's pretty glitchy. Unfortunately, Etsy won't readjust your Star Seller Metrics over this. It's definitely a Message that should be Marked as Spam.
You could use a browser instead.
Thanks for the comment.
How sad is it that we have to use a mobile browser, because the app lacks basic functionality?

Do not trash it if you care about Star Seller.
It’s not ideal, but you can mark a message as spam in the buyer app. You only need to be logged in with the same data you use for your seller account / seller app.

I trashed it, hoping it wouldn't affect my star seller, but it does! Trashing doesn't prevent your response rate from falling below the threshold.
apps are extra user interface code inserted between the user and the main application,
I wouldn't ever use them, and definitely not rely on them, to run a business
however, if you have a phone capable of running apps, you can use a browser, no need for a computer
I would never rely solely on an app to run my business. No matter how well written they are, by nature they are made to operate on lower resources and that means some things will not work as well (or at all) on the app as they do in the full scale website. Apps are great for keeping on top of things on the go, but the important stuff is too important to rely on an app.
