Can a buyer cancel a payment processing order?

Somebody purchased an item of mine yesterday, and it stated the payment was processing. Today, it shows that the transaction, with payment still pending, has been canceled. I did not cancel it. In the past I learned that a seller can't cancel a transaction as long as it says that payment is pending. What happened?

The payment did not go through. Usually the cc was declined or fraud. It's for your protection.

Yes, I just noticed that the seller's account no longer exists.
