Buyers are seeing a lower total than what they are charged

What is going on? I have now had TWO customers message me in a week upset that they were charged more than what the cart told them they were being charged. Here are TWO almost identical comments from different customers:

>>>>> "total at checkout was $44 with taxes and shipping but I was charged $60 on my credit card!!"

>>>>> "total before tax and shipping it will be $15. then I go through payment and it's over $28"

The first checkout total is my item total in USD. The second one is the TOTAL they paid with shipping, and whatever applicable tax they pay. SO what on earth is going on Etsy that people are not seeing the correct totals? 

I have lost and had to refund sales because of this, and the customers are mad at ME...this is an ETSY issue, not a ME issue. 

Has anyone else experienced this? I can't get it to replicate on my end when I try to buy something, so I have no idea what to say to these customers.

That was my first thought, but those are the buyers currency. And the amounts are my item subtotal then the total total with shipping and tax. So the amounts are correct based on what they should pay regardless of currency calculation. It's just that they think they are paying less than they are supposed to for some reason.

they have the currency in their account set to the default (USA) ....not where they are located. Happens a lot.

Pretty sure It's not currency. I only ship to the US and Canada, The amounts were the subtotal and the total in USD. (I can see both CAD and what they paid in USD when I get the order).  If it was currency, customers would be jumping for joy not mad bc the USD amount is 30% lower than the CAD. amount. The wording of both these messages are that what they thought they were paying was less than what they were being charged. The Cart and the payment screens are showing two different amounts. Even though what they were charges was the correct amount with shipping and tax. From how I understand it they were seeing an amount that told them the subtotal included shipping and tax and then they were seeing the correct amount when they actually got to the payment part. This doesn't sound like currency.

I have just had this issue with a customer - the receipt total including all tax and shipping was $39.78 but her credit card was charged $45.05 - it was a corporate purchase and she needs a receipt to match the charge but there is nothing on her account that I can give her. Did you ever get to the bottom of this and find a solution? Thanks
