Hi everyone,
I’ve run into a problem with my new shop and I hope someone here can give me advice. Buyers are not able to complete payments in my shop — every order is instantly declined with the message that my shop cannot accept payments.
I have already added all payment methods, my details are verified, and everything looks correct in my settings. Still, customers (from different countries and banks) cannot pay. I even asked my friend abroad and tried myself from another account — the result is always the same.
Support only tells me to wait, but without any clear solution or timeframe. It’s really discouraging, since I’ve put a lot of time and effort into setting up my shop.
Has anyone faced this issue before? Could it be some kind of restriction on new shops, or something else I might be missing? Any advice would be very much appreciated!
Thank you!
@TheMindsWay duplicate post. Your payment methods are all available.
@TheMindsWay Your shop does have payment options available. I just put one of your items in my cart and nothing was grayed out. I could've completed the purchase if I went further.
Did you by any chance get a message or two from ''buyers'' saying they want to buy but can't? If so, those messages are probably scams.
I also asked my friend from another country to try buying from my shop, and he was not able to complete the payment either. He clicked to pay, the payment went through, and then he immediately received a refund along with a message that the purchase was not possible.
The payment methods are available in my shop, but when a buyer tries to pay for an item, Etsy cancels the order within a few seconds and sends them a message that the item cannot be purchased. I then receive a notice that the order was not paid. Support told me it’s a problem with the bank, but I don’t believe four different people all had bank issues. Clearly, this looks like something internal — maybe a bug.
Example "Regarding your recent purchase XXX, from TheMindsWay: unfortunately, it was unable to be completed. We're truly sorry about this and have removed it from your Etsy account."
@TheMindsWay Did you add the small deposit to your bank account since you had a sale? Did the friend do a sale from your computer? Etsy is sensitive to that and will refund thinking shilling is happening.
It is quite possible that the cards were fraudulent. New shops often get targeted with supposed buyers testing out cards to see if they would go through. Your item cost is low enough they could try this.
The payment processors are the ones that handle the cards. They would stop or refund if they think the card was fraudulent or stolen.
As a new shop you can experience this as new shops are often targets now.
@TheMindsWay : "... but when a buyer tries to pay for an item, Etsy cancels the order within a few seconds and sends them a message that the item cannot be purchased ..." It is rare and don't know if it applies in your situation, but sometimes a payment processor refuses a transaction because of the seller or the product. Digital products are considered high risk by payment processors and the fact that you appear to violating Etsy's rules on health claims (https://www.etsy.com/legal/policy/medical-claims/239976157654) may also be a factor.
I had an order on 9/21 and it showed via email "Do not mail yet. Payment is being processed". Or something like that. Then I received an email that the payment did not go thru and the order was cancelled. I never had one like that before in the past. It was very strange.
@Marbrykers Not strange at all. Etsy is protecting you. The payment processor checks cards. If they find information the card has been reported stolen or is not legal in any manner they will stop the payment. Etsy is protecting you by telling you not to ship.
Not all transactions go through.
@TheMindsWay I think support meant a problem with your bank, not the 4 buyers banks. Check all of the tabs in your Finance drop-down, updated bank/card info, currency settings, any emails from Etsy re warnings, violations, Etsy payments enabled etc.. No need to post anything further about banking in the forums. Try calling your bank too.
Be careful. Scammers are out there. Don't reply to any Inbox messages that claim to be Etsy. The only folder where Etsy sends a message will be the From E folder.
