This guy just bought from me and then sends another email asking me to change the ship to address for the shipping of the purchase item..is that a no,no I thought?
tell him you'll cancel his order with the incorrect address and that he can reorder with the correct address.
could be a scam ... using stolen account/credit card and then trying to redirect the items.
could be innocent buyer who went oops after ordering.
either way, you'll lose seller protection if you ship to a different address so cancel and he can reorder using correct address.
Refund and cancel the order.
Tell him "To avoid confusion and possible delay, I'll cancel this sale and you can re-order with the correct address." Then cancel the sale. If the sale is legit, he will reorder with the correct address. If he doesn't, it was likely a scam.
Don't risk your Seller Protection.
I used to change addresses when people asked because I thought for the most part I could get a feeling of whether it was legit or not. But I feel like there has been such a shift recently in the way people act that sadly I usually now ask them to repurchase with the correct address just in case they may be trying to pull something. It stinks that bad apples have made it where honest people have to be questioned.
I feel the same way. I used to do it frequently and never had an issue but I wouldn't do it now. Way too many scammers.
I've done it for my long term repeat buyers who message me and say 'oh ... I'm going to be at my sister's ... could you have them sent there' or 'we're going to be in Florida for the winter' or my seamstress is on vacation, can you send these to me'.
I've done it recently.
I wouldn't do it for someone I don't already have a established working relationship with.
The only reason I do it for long term repeat customers (emphasizing long term repeat) is I appreciate their business and hate to ask them to jump through a hoop because Etsy has made me paranoid.
I had this. I cancelled the order and refunded and asked the buyer to update their details for the correct address. Sending to any other address means, the buyer could easily say the item never arrived.
we're not protected by etsy if we do that, anymore. used to be ok if the customer asked in a convo, but no longer.
Don't do it. If the buyer opened a case for non-delivery, they'd win.
If they don't repurchase, more than likely it was someone trying to scam you.
Cases for Sellers (Effective until August 1, 2022) - Our House Rules | Etsy
A non-delivery occurs when a buyer places an order but does not receive the item. Non-delivery cases include when:
Besides voiding seller protection on Etsy, changing the shipping address may affect the shipping price.
I stopped changing addresses years ago to avoid confusion. It's something I have only made a few exceptions to for repeat buyers.
Not only the shipping price, but the sales tax charged. Sales tax shifts with even small changes. I'm outside the town boundaries, and my sales tax is lower than if I lived 200 yards east, within the town limits. My zip code also covers homes in 2 counties.
The same thing has been happening to me quite a bit lately. I just message them and tell them I'm canceling the order, and they can reorder with the correct address. Normally I don't hear from them again, except for one recent buyer who reordered and changed the address. I was going to fill this order and then Etsy cancelled her order and stated that the buyer account may have been compromised. She then reordered AGAIN under a new profile, and I cancelled that one, sent her messages to spam and kept the product out of my shop for a while so she couldn't order it again.
