Buyer not charged enough shipping

Hello! A buyer purchased two items from me today. Each item was listed separately and each had flat rate shipping of $10. They added both to their shopping cart and purchased in one transaction, and Etsy only charged one $10 shipping fee. Is this an error? The $10 shipping was accurate for each item, but I can't ship both for $10 so I'll have to suck up the difference. I was under the impression that the buyer would still owe $10 shipping for each item, as listed, and I could refund any overage if there was one.

Was this my mistake somehow in the way I listed? Or an Etsy glitch?

What do you have for ships with another item?

Re: Buyer not charged enough shipping

@PackageDealVintage: Your shipping profiles have a spot where you enter how much to charge for each additional item on an order - the highest shipping cost is used first. If it is blank then additional items are included 'for free'.

Re: Buyer not charged enough shipping

It seems you have $0 in the 'with another item' shipping box.  I just put two similar items in my cart and both had $7.25 shipping amounts.  However, after adding the second item, the shipping was still the $7.25 that was charged when adding the first item.

Re: Buyer not charged enough shipping

Thank you all for the replies! I understand now. I thought that "second item" box was strictly for a second of that particular item, not any other item (i.e. buying 2 or more of the same item, not 2 or more completely separate items with separate shipping costs). This is a good lesson for me and I'll be sure to update my shipping profiles now. Fortunately this wasn't a very expensive mistake.

Thank you all!

OP, send your buyer a message the shipping was incorrect. Cancel and refund the order and advise the buyer they can purchase again for the correct sales price plus shipping. You are not obligated to accept the sale if the terms were not clear. Just be very, very polite.

Re: Buyer not charged enough shipping

It's ok, I wouldn't feel right about that. It was my mistake, not hers. Just unfortunate that I got dinged 3x on this sale - they were able to use my "welcome 10%" coupon, then I had the shipping wrong, then it came from an off-site ad so I got nailed for that LOL  All good though... I buffer things a bit for situations like these. I'm happy with the sale and the buyer is VERY happy with the items
