A buyer does not need your email address this is a Scam, mark it as spam, do not click on any links, they have been targeting mainly new shops for a while.
This is a SCAM
It is a total scam, as they do not need your email address to complete an order, as Etsy already have your email address on file. They are not genuine buyers, they want your email address to send phishing emails to scam you. Others have been scammed for thousands. Send the message(s) to spam and ignore it, do not respond or give them your email address at all.
You haven't 'lost' two sales. You have dodged a scammer twice.
You beat me to this one.
Bonjour , J'aie moi-même eu un message hier ou la personne me disait qu'on lui demandait mon adresse mail pour commander ,c'est bien sur une arnaque ,ils n'ont pas besoin de notre mail pour commander . J'aie mis le message dans les spams
@CrotchetShopDesigns: As mentioned by others it is a SCAM - you might want to read the excellent post by @bradgoodell in https://community.etsy.com/t5/Managing-Your-Shop/How-to-Spot-a-Scam-No-a-Buyer-Doesn-t-Need-Your-Ema... and https://community.etsy.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Why-do-they-ask-me-for-my-e-mail-in-order-to-make-a-p...
There is also official information from Etsy at https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000343128-How-to-Handle-Spam-and-Suspicious-Messages?segm...
Be sure to mark the message as SPAM so that it does not affect your stats.
scam, scam scam, scam
There is almost never a reason to give your email address to a buyer, only the scammers that prey on new shops will ask for it.
Hello, I have also just opened my Etsy shop and am still in the process of uploading my products. I just received a message from someone who was said to be a potential customer. They claimed to be in the order completion stage and that Etsy's page required them to ask for my email address in order to send a note along with the gift. After seeing the warnings here, I immediately blocked them. Thank you for your warnings as well.
Every day these messages come into my inbox, it is crawling with scammers.
Report them and forget about it.
Also if you get messages so called from Etsy, you can check if those are real by going to the dedicated folder "From Etsy"
