Business identification number for Australian Business

Jump to solution

I have been trying to get my incorporated business verified.

Not sure for other countries, but in Australia we only have ABN (Australian Business Number) and ACN (Australian Company Number)

In the 'Primary taxpayer ID' section, ABN has been asked once.

Not idea what to put in for Business identification number for Australian business in the 'Tell us about your business' section - unfortunately Etsy support is not able to justify.

Wondering if any Australian seller knows the answer.

Many thanks!

For shop ownder who have registered incorporate business for Etsy (Australia) and struggle to verify legal shop information as in description:

  • Business identification number would be your ACN (Australian Company Number)
  • Please DO NOT put PTY LTD at the end of you legal entity name
  • You may need to wait a month (before you change your seller type in Finance) after you get your business registered since there could be a delay in the system

Hope this would help Aussie Etsy sellers. If any etsy support see this comment, please update the information in the legal shop information guide.

Best luck to all

may or may not be helpful:

The name of your business identification number may vary by location. Although this list is not exhaustive, this number may be known by the following names:

  • Entity number or ID
  • Business number or ID
  • Department number or ID
  • Company number
  • Filing number
  • Document number
  • Control number
  • Organization number
  • Charter number
  • License number
  • Registry number

In this case, try your ACN

I remember putting my ACN in during the application process and now my store cannot be verified. It's been a few days and I have been charged by Etsy for the store but it still sits in vacation mode.

I have typed in the ABN where I was directed to by a generic sounding Etsy email, but that email is also asking me to upload documents. There is nowhere for me to upload Australian documents (only French and German docs which I of course don't have).

Does anyone else know what I am supposed to do for an Australian Etsy store that will go under a company name? I'm not sure if it's because our company names also include Pty Ltd and that causes their system to say it's not a match?

@WickedFumes your shop is open as far as I can see. You haven't finished setting it all up so get on that asap. If you are registered for GST, you must put your business details in. If you're not registered for GST, you do not have to.

Not sure why it's asking for French/German if your shop is registered on Etsy as being in Australia.

Hi, I was wondering if you were able to sort out the issue you were having because I'm having a similar issue. They have our ABN but they want a 'business registration number' that isn't our ABN. I'm lost and we are stuck in 'holiday mode'.

Hey, I am waiting for my approval and it has been many days. I see you mentioned about Pty Ltd, do you add it or no?

Hey, Why do you suggest not putting PTY LTD at the end of legal entity name? I am in the process of updating my info and waiting for Etsy to review my documents. Not new seller and my shop is in vacation mode by Etsy:(

Unfortunately I am a business not a company. I have am ABN not an ACN. Thanks for trying though. I have given up. I am currently trying to close my shop without luck for some reason so am awaiting the deletion of my data to end this nightmare! Goodluck to those who have been able to open an etsy shop for some reason it just won't be me.

The help system etsy uses is a joke. My chain of over 20 emails reads like a comedy. These last few months has been frustrating and upsetting.

Thanks for nothing Etsy.  Customer and potential seller lost.
