I get it that the program mistakenly flags items. But why am I waiting over a month to get an actual human to look at my help ticket and give a non copy and paste response to proof given and have my items reinstated? Its happened in the past(took a month) and was finally cleared up because I was not in violation.
Chat “escalated” weeks ago.
Forum admin said they were working on it as we speak last week.
Still nothing and now 2 more just mistakenly flagged.
Why cant this system work better? If it can’t, then sellers deserve better customer service than this, especially with the yellow banner of fear that our shops may be shut down after 12 years of hard work for a buggy flag program with lack of human over-site.
PLEASE help!

if i were you.
i would visit the help center tomorrow.
and request a call-back.
etsy probably has 3 humans.
handling 3 million flagged items.
@FabioMcMustache can you help this seller get a reply from support?
Good luck with that!
Forum admins seem to just respond and close the threads. Its pretty unacceptable how long I’ve been waiting.
I am having the same problem! I requested a call back but the agent was not helpful and just kept repeating that my listing violated the creativity standards.
Yep. I went through that last time.
And then when you FINALLY get someone in the correct department to look at your item and proof it’s found you are NOT in violation.
wish there was a way to clear a shop from getting these flagging mistakes after being cleared so we don’t have to keep wasting time (months worth) trying to get our items reinstated.
I'm also having trouble posting perfectly legal items for sale and having the "bots" remove the listings. You're absolutely correct, it's virtually impossible to get help from a human at Etsy anymore. What a shame! Etsy used to treat their seller very well and genuinely used to care about the seller's experiences. Now, Etsy has left the "AI" in charge and Etsy sellers have no idea what standards we need to meet ... to add insult to injury there is no appeals system that we can use. The other thing that I don't understand is that I can pull up more than 50 current, active Etsy listings for products containing the same core ingredients which the bots violated me for ... I can't help but ask why Etsy is not applying their "Prohibited Items" policy equally across all sellers? Why are others allowed to post but I get violated? This is totally unjust ... and since there is no appeal process ... and all 3 of their human employees are on vacation ... I'm getting BOGUS violations on my record. It's good to know that I'm not the only seller dealing with this, but Etsy needs to get this serious ongoing problem fixed or they're going to start losing their best sellers. I actually received a form letter (email) the other day stripping me of my Star Seller status and threatening me with suspension of my shop! There's no way to even learn what I've done wrong ... maybe it's just easier to find a new platform. Thoughts anyone?
you are selling at least one thing that is absolutely prohibited from selling here.
things made from chinchillas.
https://www.etsy.com/legal/policy/endangered-threatened-or-at-risk/239374829600
Etsy prohibits the sale of products made from endangered or threatened animals as identified by the CITES Appendix I and the US Endangered Species Act, as well as some additional at-risk animals.
Some examples of prohibited species include but are not limited to:
Do you know why were you flagged?
Actually, my chinchilla listings are a perfect example of why I'm frustrated ... in the past they have been removed ... but then Etsy reactivated them and they are still active ... but when I try to list chinchilla last week, I get another violation ... sometimes you can list it, sometimes you can't. There is no consistency in how Etsy applies their violations! There are PLENTY of chinchilla fur coats and blankets listed on Etsy today ... if there's a reason for this inconsistent policy implimentation, please just let me know what it is! Having something allowed last week but not allowed next week is ridiculous! I'm sorry, for without consistent guidelines you end up with seriously frustrated sellers! I'm having the exact same problem with litting an otter fur hat ... tons of otter fur listings currently on Etsy, but I try to list one otter fur hat and I get a violation. I just want the rules to be uniformly applied to all sellers in all situations ... I don't think that's an unreasonable request!
etsy updated the policy on August 14th, 2024.
and chinchillas are prohibited.
what other sellers do have nothing to do with anything.
there are all kinds of prohibited items being sold here.
it does not make your item less prohibited.
it is spelled out... in writing...
that items made with chinchillas are prohibited from being sold here.
nothing else matters except that.
I truly have no problem with Etsy tightening their "Prohibited Items" policy. That is going to make Etsy a better platform for all of us. I fully realize that Etsy cannot be an expert in all of the various industries represented by it's sellers. As a professional fur seller I'm well familiar with the Endangers Species Act that Etsy incorporates into their "Prohibited Items" policy. It is wild raised chinchillas that are on the endangered list. The garment industry uses only farm raised chinchillas ... which are not endangered. To make it easier to apply a standard, Etsy says that all chinchilla products are prohibited. I don't agree with this, but I do understand Etsy's rationale for making the policy. I have no problem following the policy ... I don't understand your comment above that "what other sellers do have nothing to do with anything. There are all kinds of prohibited items being sold here." Why aren't all listings and all sellers subject to the same rules? That's a simple, common sense question that I'm struggling with and you appear to simply dismiss it. Please help me to understand this.
Why aren't all listings and all sellers subject to the same rules?
we are.
but you are selling a prohibited item.
and other sellers see you are selling them.
so they decide to sell them too.
and there it is.
the cycle of prohibited items being sold here based on what others are selling.
and not based on etsys policies.
you should report those other sellers.
it would make me very happy.
ps.
I have no problem following the policy .
i noticed you removed the word *chinchilla* from the $3000 ermine and chinchilla fur.
you know the word was there.
i know it was there.
and etsy knows it was there.
they have time stamps with every single change we make.
removing the word...is not going to change the fact.
that the item is prohibited from being sold here.
and now you are being dishonest about what that fur is made from.
The reason that I'm struggling with and frustrated by is that my products are 100% legal to sell ... yet I can't sell them in my Etsy shop. Rules change, I get that, change is part of life. Life isn't always fair. I'm only responsible for and accountable for my own actions. So no, I'm not going to report other fur sellers. Frankly, I'm too busy running my own successful Etsy shop to have the time or desire for such petty behavior. I give outstanding customer service to my customers and it's frustrating for me to not be able to get ANY appreciable customer service FROM Etsy. This is a new and profoundly negative change. Automation of business processes and "AI" are apparently a large part of the changes to Etsy's business environment, but they are NOT positive changes for sellers. You may not share my opinion and that's OK, but it does not invalidate my opinion or my frustrations.
if you continue selling things that etsy prohibits you from selling.
you will no longer have a successful etsy shop to run.
One way that Etsy starts to clean up the site is to disallow new listings from being created, then they start to go back and take down older/established listings. Your current chinchilla listings are still up, but you say they stopped you from listing a new one - perfect example.
Eventually they will get to everyone selling things they shouldn't be.
You can look and see how many sellers are still selling animals on the list, but you're not seeing all the listings they've already taken down and the shops they've closed already that keep violating.
And if you're still selling chinchilla items now that they're on the list, you are really setting yourself up to be closed down in the near future. And it doesn't help that you've come onto the forums to announce all this, as the mods do monitor the forum postings.
Those on the forum often enough have seen sellers start a thread and before the day is done, their shops have been closed by Etsy because they weren't following the rules.
@BarbTheFurLady: While we can totally understand your frustration, there can be a big difference between what is legal to sell and what is 'Etsy legal'.
"Why aren't all listings and all sellers subject to the same rules?" They are but Etsy does not constantly check every listing. They do some kind of sampling and you were caught in that. The fact that there are other shops selling similar items only means that they have not been caught yet, or those listings may not contain the same trigger that snared you. Additionally, we will not know how many other listings were deactivated using the same trigger - only those that appear to not have been.
Yes, I completely understand this ... however, it is a major source of frustration for me, as an Etsy seller. I'm experienced in life enough to know that life isn't always fair. It simply is what it is.
Interesting conversation everyone ... thank you!
