Australian Sellers, Serious Bug with your Location. Many are shipping from "Iowa" "north carolina"

This bug was pointed out to me by another seller in Sydney...that my items were listed as dispatching from "iowa", his from "north carolina" - a potential buyer in Australia contacted him asking if he shipped to Australia! 

I might have figured out what the problem was - Free shipping! - turned that all off, re did all the shipping profiles...... and back to normal "shipping from Austalia" - lets hope it stays that way!!

Make sense now why there have been next to no sales in 2 weeks compared to 5-10. 

I contacted support  via chat and the response was along the lines of  "thank you for your feedback, we will pass on your ideas about the design of the site " ...I asked for the issue to be passed on to technical support........but dont hold your breath for things to change with this serious bug.

I have had free domestic shipping since I don't remember when. I've always been shown as shipping from Australia. Is this 'free shipping' part of the FSG $35 program which might be the problem. I saw a thread recently about a glitch with US postcodes linking up to a German (I think) shop.

Eek.  That's a bit of a wild one.

I just checked one of my listings and looks okay, saying "Dispatches from a small business in Australia" but I do have shipping costs associated with my items.

When the issue was occurring, did you happen to notice if the little "Local seller" text was visible on your items underneath the item title (when viewed in a browser)?

HI @AnniebelloPaper if I use the etsy buyer app (not the seller app) your items are listed as shipping from "Illinois to select countries" - on a desktop it shows "shipping from Australia" . No this wasn't part of the over $35 shipping thing which I don't use....It was just I had free shipping for all listings in Australia that seemed to be causing the problem.

@C20Ceramics OMG, I'm seeing it too. It also says I'm a 4 star shop when I'm a 5-star shop. Looks like I'm going to be contacting Etsy as well.

I ship from Poland. Just yesterday one of my clients informed me that my products are being shipped from West Virginia! It's a bug on Etsy. When will this website function normally?

Oh boy! Just checked the Buyer mobile app @lalarossa  - I'm seeing your items ship from West Virginia!

On the browser site for mobile, I see shipping from Poland.

Hi @givemeacrown If I use the app to look at your items (the orange buyer one not the seller one) all your items "only ship to Australia from North Carolina" but you don't have free shipping anywhere I can see.....so no idea what is going on now. Maybe just re-do your shipping profiles and change by a few cents see if that does anything. On a desktop all looks fine, shop located in Australia

I've had a look at a few of your items in the Etsy buyer app and they seem to be okay now.

I can see the issue in my shop. 

I tried selecting my shipping profiles and updating my origin post code for them all at once - this did not seem to help.

I opened up each profile, made no edits, and saved - this did not seem to help.

I've opened up each profile and increased the price by $0.01 - this did not seem to help.

I'm hoping that maybe it's just slow..... but I'll keep an eye on this thread if anyone finds other things to try out.

I've now also tried the following which haven't helped:

Deactivating an item and re-activating it.

Deleting old shipping profiles that had no listings attached to them.

Re-applying a shipping profile in bulk to a few listings.

Re-publishing a listing.

What a strange puzzle.

@ampersay you might need to look into this....I raised with support but I don't think they understood how widespread the issue is.

@lalarossa I checked yours....on a desktop computer all OK - Shipping from Poland, but on the Etsy app all items are  "shipping from West Virginia"

Thank you. I will have to contact tech support. It's terrible what's happening here now. I set free shipping and a big orange box pops up saying "your shipping price is too high". When creating a custom list, I can't create a valid price. I write 200 euros, save it, and it turns out to be 2000. I have to edit and correct the price every time. Now that Virginia... I'm tired of it all.

@givemeacrown interesting....mine fixed within seconds everywhere....lets hope it stays that way!.......do you have any old shipping profiles with free shipping not being used? Maybe try changing your location in your etsy profile to another Australian city, save,  then change it back ??...I also changed my postcode by 1 eg. 5000 to 5001  on all my shipping profiles....but you tried that.

@C20Ceramics You seem to be onto something with changing the postcode. What I tried before was just re-saving my own postcode.

I've now tried your suggestion to change it.

I am in 2792. I changed it to 2799 and it showed I only ship to Australia. 

But I changed it back to 2792 and I am back to shipping from North Carolina!

I'll keep poking.

I've now changed my shipping profiles back to postcode 2799 (a nearby suburb) and the Etsy buyer app now says "Only delivers within Australia".

I've tried switching back but each time I try to put my own postcode of 2792 it displays the North Carolina message.

@givemeacrown interesting...... It seems not be a problem if your postcode isn't your actual one....unless you used Etsy shipping maybe.

@C20Ceramics I don't use Etsy labels and my postcode is 6066. Illinois state postcodes start with 6's. Iowa's start with 5's and North Carolina's are 27's. 

I think Etsy's computers have had a major glitch on the app : (

This bug seems to be effecting every Australian seller I have looked at in the Etsy buyer APP ....not just those using free postage. Hard to see what they all have in common. 

On a desktop all the ones I have viewed on the app with an incorrect location look fine (Australia on the desktop ...random U.S State location on the App) ....but since a high proportion of buyers use the app to purchase not a desktop or laptop, this must cause a lot of them to simply go elsewhere to shop.

Could it be that the digits are similar to a North Carolina zip/postal code 27920? I don't have the buyers app to check mine.
