This bug was pointed out to me by another seller in Sydney...that my items were listed as dispatching from "iowa", his from "north carolina" - a potential buyer in Australia contacted him asking if he shipped to Australia!
I might have figured out what the problem was - Free shipping! - turned that all off, re did all the shipping profiles...... and back to normal "shipping from Austalia" - lets hope it stays that way!!
Make sense now why there have been next to no sales in 2 weeks compared to 5-10.
I contacted support via chat and the response was along the lines of "thank you for your feedback, we will pass on your ideas about the design of the site " ...I asked for the issue to be passed on to technical support........but dont hold your breath for things to change with this serious bug.
@AnniebelloPaper EXACTLY! This scale of shameless tinkering and indifference just would not occur in that case.
The Lead in Tech support has reached out to me and I have sent a screen shot of what an effected store listing looks like (as mine seems to be all ok for now since I tinkered with the postcode and shipping profiles and got rid of any free shipping) . Will update in the morning what I hear back from them (bed time here now! )
@C20Ceramics Thank you for making us all aware. It is so much appreciated!
I haven't heard back from support yet, but I had a look this morning using the buyer app (not the new seller app) and 9 out of 10 Australian based listings on the Etsy buyer App has the location listed as "shipping from <insert random US state> " . BUT SOME have "ONLY ships to Australia FROM <insert random US state>."
I have 2 other small stores selling graphics/photography, and they were experiencing the issue, but I managed to fix them as well ....by going through each shipping profile and making the postcode on the shipping profile EXACTLY THE SAME as on my Etsy Account Profile - and they were fixed to the correct location straight away on the app.
It is worth checking to see if your postcode on shipping matches the postcode on your Etsy account. I had it set to the City Adelaide, because that is the general location - but maybe now it has to be specific - the actual suburb in which you live, on both your Etsy account profile and every listing.....My storefront is still set as "Adelaide" but every listing is set to the suburb matching my account address.
I had no free postage in these 2 other stores so It is not free postage causing it for me as I first thought it was. Both stores contain a mix of actual products to be shipping and digital downloads.
@C20Ceramics glad this worked for you. I just checked and my account postcode is the same as my shipping one. I did have an alternate address for my delivery address so I deleted that. My stuff is still shipping from Illinois. I have one item that is showing correctly and that shipping profile has 2 zeroes added to the front of my postcode. Hope we get something from Etsy soon, this is nuts!
edited to add ... 'SOME have "ONLY ships to Australia FROM <insert random US state>." ... I think those would be shops that only ship within Australia.
@AnniebelloPaper thats annoying.....the whole thing is just so strange....and inconsistent. Hope Etsy can fix it soon....Im sure thats why a lot of buyers have simply vanished in the past few weeks.
One last idea I had is that because all sellers have to have a credit card on file, if the address for that on your Etsy account (it shows your address as well as the credit card number in your personal details) doesn't match everything else in your account that might cause an issue?? @AnniebelloPaper
@C20Ceramics nice try but still not it.
I've checked everything that has my name, address and postcode on it. We did move house just before Christmas so there was a change of address and postcode but not every seller with this problem has changed addresses.
I'm at the point of adding 00 to front of my postcode for all my physical listings. I've already got the alert wording on all the listing descriptions but that's only going to help if a buyer gets that far.
No updates received from support as of this morning.
@C20Ceramics nothing to me either. I've just sent them yet another message on my ticket to see if we're going to get it fixed anytime soon. I've also asked them to maybe post something in the forums so everyone can see 'something' is being done. Not holding my breath : (
Well, I received a whole bunch of “troubleshooting” hogwash relating to updating my browser, etc, by email in response to my ticket and AGAIN had to reiterate this is occurring on the Etsy buyers app! I honestly can’t believe how daft these people are.
I have been on chat and they seemed to understand the problem (on the orange buyer app, showing a location dispatching in this case Georgia US instead of Australia, fine on the browser), and they said they will forward a report to technical support... I guess if we keep letting them know that there is a problem, hopefully they will address it sooner rather than later!
@MyPaperPlanet you would think so. It's looking like this has been a problem for at least a week. I'm alerting all Australian shops that I see posting in the forums. The more sellers that let them know, and keep on their back about it ... well we might see some progress. We just have to keep reiterating that it's a problem on the buyers' app ... you know, the place where Etsy reckons most buyers purchase : (
@AnniebelloPaper I can't even find how to get into the chat anywhere! All I get is a greyed out (aka unavailable) button for a callback.
when you get to the help centre, choose shipping. I then chose 'shipping profiles'. Scroll right to the bottom then you should get 'I still need help'. I just did all that right now and got a 'chat' clickable
not sure if that link is just for my use but try it anyway.
Tried that way and just again now and still get the unavailable call back option. Tried several other sections and the I still need help and same result.
@FunkyKoala I just clicked my own link and it's greyed out too. Perhaps Etsy is being inundated with help requests at the moment. Considering our problem isn't the only one going around, it's not surprising. Even though the system says 24/7, time zones will be playing a part as well. We just have to keep trying. : (
@FunkyKoala click the link ... chat is back??
@AnniebelloPaperThank you.... sadly for me it is still just the same unavailable call back option!
The Keep Commerce Human slogan at the bottom is very appropriate for this situation!
@AnniebelloPaper @FunkyKoala @C20Ceramics has anyone noticed that the "Shop Local" option has disappeared from the buyer's app? In the thumbnail options under the search bar, alongside "Free Delivery"/"Eat. Arrival" / "Price"/ "Location", etc. When I attempted the "Shop Local" option yesterday, as a buyer, it took me to the US. The option to "Shop Local" seems to have disappeared from my app today.
@ApogeeVintage I never use the app normally. Under 'shop location' I see the same options I see on the web view... anywhere, Australia, custom location.
@AnniebelloPaper it's the little shortcuts I'm referring to under the search bar in the orange app. Alongside "Location" "Price" Set. Arrival" etc there was a "Shop Local" option which disappeared today. The plot thickens.
I’m in the UK and all the sellers who have commented that their shops are showing as being in the US still have the wrong location. Mississippi, Virginia and Iowa are displayed on the item pages on the buyer app although the shop homepage shows the correct location of Australia, Poland etc. The only one who shows a dispatch from Australia is C20Ceramics.
Etsy’s claimed escalation to the tech department doesn’t seem to have done much.
@MyOrganisedHome thanks for checking. I have one listing showing as 'ships from Australia' because I altered the postcode on that listing by adding two zeroes to the front. This also is what some German sellers are doing. It shouldn't work because it's not a recognised Australian postcode. As for the tech dept ... we still have received any updates via emails or messaged and zero announcements here in the forums. There's so many problems, you can't even get help as all the options are greyed out. : (
