I have never heard of a e store that does not have their customers phone numbers. Any idea why we can't call the customer when there is a time critical issue?

I remember growing up back in the 80's and 90's when you got a phone call (on the landline, obviously) it was an actual phone call. Now just about everyone has their phones on them almost all of the time, and 99% of the time it's robocalls more than anything else (ok, maybe just me because I abhor making/getting phone calls so I'm never on my phone unless absolutely necessary). Hence why my phone automatically silences any number that is not already saved in my contacts.

Things change. What may have been considered customer service 20/30/40 years ago, is not the same as it is now. Back then phone calls were really the only option to get in touch with someone quickly. Now you have more options, like email and text.

@LikeNewCollectibles

It isn't the personal attention that has changed, it's the methods we use. Take a screen shot of the message that includes the address they gave and explain you will need t verify the correct address before you can ship. If you don't here back in a day or so, cancel and refund, explain you will relist everything and they can repurchase with a verified address.

@LikeNewCollectibles   It has nothing to do with personal attention, at all!  It has everything to do with privacy and safety.  You are right - things have changed a lot since then!  We could stay out and play after dark years ago.  We could hitchhike safely.  Things have changed. I give my customers great personal attention, as do most of the legitimate sellers here.  They don't feel slighted because they don't have my personal home phone number, and I've been selling online for more than 20 years.

I do wonder what is most appropriate procedure when the EU postal system requires the Etsy buyer’s telephone number on the Customs Shipping Label.

The Etsy label cannot process without a phone number for the addressee.

@EastHillSundries

the eu postal system does not need it, your shipper is harvesting data

I would absolutely not want a vendor to call me.

Just email me, I am sure that your voice is very melodious but my voice is lugubrious, so I am saving you from me.  You can thank me later.

@LikeNewCollectibles   It's a horrible idea.  There are already enough ways to be contacted.  I don't need total strangers calling my private home, especially considering the horrid ones we come across now and then!  I don't need screaming abuse coming into my home, thank you very much.  I would rather read it than have to listen to it! They can email or convo and I have the option to respond or send it to spam.

I may be old, I am not ancient. My E store was on its own web site with my own merchant account.  It was only ten years ago when it closed.  Maybe not on Etsy, but there are thousands of E stores with their own phone number, their own customer service dept. Not all sellers are on platforms. But I get it. Thanks for explaining

Since Etsy doesn’t require Buyers’ phone numbers, but since Etsy Postage Labels do require a phone number and since some Customs Postage systems do require the addressee’s Phone number, what are other Etsy Sellers providing as phone numbers on the shipping labels ? Thank you !

@EastHillSundries: We do not use Etsy labels, but have had no issue with '000-000-0000' as the recipient's phone number on international labels.

Some customs services do call the recipient to say 'your package is here and you owe us money' but our experience is that this is the exception.

@EastHillSundries - have the Etsy labels changed in the last three months since I've been using PirateShip?  I never gave out my number as a seller for the labels, and I never had one for my customer, either.

I'm in the USA and only ship to USA, but I don't wish to call or be called by anybody I'm involved with in a transaction.

I'm definitely old school, but doggone don't bother me by phone.  I don't answer if I don't have you pre-labeled.  Caller ID was perhaps the best invention ever...better than answering machines, which were fantastic!

If I had to give out my phone number, I wouldn't be a customer.

Etsy wants to control all. Even though they have little help for sellers.

I remember working as an intern for a co. and that was very limited email days. There was a big order for fabric to make drapes for a client, we called the company and they kept telling us it was in the Mail. We never got it. Come to find out the fabric was still at the Mill being made. The contact person (bless their heart) was from the south, and mail and mill sounded the same. If we would have had email the confusion would have been fixed and another fabric ordered.
