Months ago I didn't respond to a spam message and for another customer I got back to her days later because I was waiting for a response from the post office. And I still don't have my badge back after having it for years and years. What am I supposed to do? Message her every day that I'm still waiting? Am I required to send a message to leave me alone to all the spam messages?
Respond within the 24 hours that you will get back to her. Report spam messages as spam.
If you don't think you can answer messages in a timely manner, set an Auto Reply and let Etsy do it for you.
You could have sent an interim reply.

The Star Seller metric for messages is very simplistic and binary - either you reply to (or mark as SPAM) that first message of a EVERY new incoming thread within 24 hours or you do not. Which option you choose is up to you.
