All of my original paintings and hand painted jars have just been changed to Designed By. They were all correctly showing as Made By yesterday. Is anyone else having this problem? I'm concerned because if a shopper is using this category to find handmade works, mine will no longer be shown. Or if Etsy's algorithm is highlighting Made By items mine might be hidden.
I'm positive they are listed correctly. I've chosen a paintbrush as the only tool used, Made by me, finished product and recently made. Art print listings in my shop which are made from my paintings are correctly documented as Designed By and have never changed.
@CopperLeafLeather That's odd that one has changed but the others are fine.
Nancy,
I just looked at the core details of one of my weavings and noticed that none of the questions were answered in those lower sections and mine kept the Made by designation. I didn't know those were down there. Could that be where the problem lies?
@Hertfordweaver It could be? I'm finishing up another painting I'll be listing tomorrow. I'll leave that section blank to see if it helps. I've always filled every relevant part out so hopefully not doing so helps.
I think mine transferred over from the old listing form and I use the copy function to add new ones. I guess that's why I never noticed it.
All my core details are filled out including that section you mention, but so far, this has not affected my listings. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
Half of my ring boxes have switched back and forth at least twice in the last couple of months. I was happy when they all switched correctly to Made By, but now some are back to Designed By. It's so frustrating.
@GielDesigns That is frustrating. But it's also helpful for this thread. It may mean Etsy is simply making updates or changes which are "temporarily" negatively impacting this area. Hopefully it switches back and they finish soon.
@NancyQstudio I certainly hope you're right, and that these labels end up accurate for all of us.
Off to check mine.
Same here! Most of my listings said Made By yesterday. Not sure why any of them were designated Designed By. I don't use production partners.
I draw, ink, paint and print everything myself. Not sure why they keep changing this.
@MagickMermaid I'm not sure either? Mine registered as Made By yesterday too. It is concerning. What's odd is none of my Designed By listings ever have a problem.
When the core details stuff first rolled out, any of my made to order items that used the personalization box said designed by instead of made by. At some point they were switched to correctly say made by. Now they're back to designed by. Very, very frustrating.
@StinsonPaperCompany I'm sorry to hear your listings have been changed too. But, since this is happening to several people it may be an Etsy glitch which will be fixed in a few days.
I'm sorry it's affected you as well, @NancyQstudio. I emailed Etsy support to see if it's a problem that can/will be fixed. Hopefully I'll hear back from them. So far today has been a very slow day and I'm wondering if there's a correlation.
I recently checked mine a couple weeks ago and all were Made By (I checked because originally when they set the made or designed by up it had mis labeled some items).
Yesterday I noticed they changed the format of how they displayed the item info and the delivery / policies info. With the format change also came a change of the made by to designed by for quite some of my items. Haven’t checked them all, but it makes no sense. My lanyards are still made by, but the wristlets with the same fabric are designed by. All are handmade by myself. It makes no sense, i haven’t changed anything.
@ByVanillaMintDesigns It sounds like their changes impacted this other and separate area. Hopefully they fix it.
So, mine have been switching back and forth since Etsy started the additional attributes. I make everything from scratch. From buying the rough lumber to making every graphic and etching every item. I've come to find that I can't find any logic for when it states "Made By" vs "Designed By". I thought maybe if you clicked BOTH "Handheld or hand-guided tools" & "Computerized tools or machines" the listing would show up as "Designed By". By removing the "Computerized tools or machines" I was able to get one listing back to "Made By". HOWEVER, I opened a different listing and that one both are checked and it states "Made By". I thought maybe hit has to do with the number of sales or category chosen and a lot of other things. Then I gave up. I can't waste time checking every listing and making changes to get things "Made By" when I don't even know how to get it to be "Made By". I don't even know what impact either the "Made By" or "Designed By" will have since that hasn't been announced yet. So, I'm grinding my teeth instead and hoping this isn't why sales are down 60%+. October was the slowest month in over 7 years. Even going into COVID things were better. I'm focusing elsewhere and selling elsewhere. With Etsy "Quit your Day Job" one day can be "Get a Day Job" the next due to their constant changes.
@ReImagineBrewing I'm sorry to hear you've been dealing with this problem on an ongoing basis. That's frustrating. I feel you are wise to focus on alternative selling avenues. I've been doing the same. But I'm still hoping to continue using Etsy as well so I hope they can resolve their site issues.
with you being badly hit by the bestsellers being completely removed from their main search term a while back too, I think concentrating gaining sales elsewhere has to be a must
My Amazon sales are doing really well there, so it's worth trying different venues to se if they work for you
My new handmade pieces are saying Made By. However, the vintage piece I made back in the 1970's (only checked one so far) is listed as Handpicked By rather than Made By.
It sounds like Etsy made another update which might have messed with this area. Since it's been a few days it's unlikely Etsy will change handmade products back into their correct categories. My newly listed painting is showing Made By. So it's working as it should now. However, all my other handmade listings are still wrongly registered as Designed By.
I'll let my handmade products expire if they don't sell. I can always make new listings for them after they've expired since that seems to work. It's not worth paying extra fees to Etsy simply to have them register correctly now. This could happen again. Etsy can be a very difficult account to work with these days.
I just had this happen to a couple of my candle listings and for some reason I had not selected what kind of tools I used. As soon as I chose "no tools" (just my hands) they changed from "Designed by" to "made by". Just in case that helps.
@TickleYourWitch Thank you, it does! I just did this and it did worked. It does go against how Etsy would like us to document our original works so it's a bit odd. Regardless, I'm happy! Hopefully it sticks. I'll be doing the rest later.
My newer listed original works are showing correctly as Made By. Because of this I'm assuming other newly programming is also impacting this area whenever it happens.
I posted about this previously. All of my listings were changed to Designed By instead of Made By. I'm guessing they were changed because I gave the name of my local printer when I filled out the Core Details. I have had no sales since this occurred. A few likes and notices about people having things in their shopping carts but no sales. Meanwhile when I examine the other stores that are recommended at the bottom of each of my listings, they all say Made By, even when they specifically name their local printer. (For example, in the details section, "after I draw or paint this image, I scan it into my computer and then have cards made at a local printer. )
Mine keeps on changing throughout the day. Right now on app it says made by, on the mobile browser it says made by, and on the desktop browser it says designed by.
