All of my original paintings and hand painted jars have just been changed to Designed By. They were all correctly showing as Made By yesterday. Is anyone else having this problem? I'm concerned because if a shopper is using this category to find handmade works, mine will no longer be shown. Or if Etsy's algorithm is highlighting Made By items mine might be hidden.
I'm positive they are listed correctly. I've chosen a paintbrush as the only tool used, Made by me, finished product and recently made. Art print listings in my shop which are made from my paintings are correctly documented as Designed By and have never changed.
have you accidentally linked a production partner to them?
@CraftyCornishMaids Great question! No, I just went and double checked.
All my listings seem fine. I wonder if it only affected painted items for some reason?
I just visited a Etsy FB help group I follow to see if others are impacted there. It seems to be happening to quite a few sellers within the last 24 hours. I'm happy to hear yours are fine!
Some of my tile listings have changed as well, from "Made by" to "Handpicked by". WTH?
I can't seem to find a way to change them back.
@HouseofWhisperingFir I've attempted to reedit mine and it didn't help. Since this is happening to other sellers I'm assuming it's a glitch on Etsy's side. Hopefully it self corrects.
One of my listings also changed to "designed by" from "made by"
@NThandmadeJewelry I'm sorry to hear you are dealing with this too.
I checked a bunch of mine, and they're fine. Well, except for the items I made more than 20 years ago, where the "vintage" seems to outweigh the "handmade" and therefore makes the item shown as "handpicked". OK, I just got fed up and changed the year I made them now. Only 1 left that is from the 90's...
Mine are still Made by. So far.
Thanks for the heads up.
@OneEyeCatStudio That's good to hear! I wonder why some of us are impacted while others are not?
You do have production partners listed, several of them. From your main page:
Printing partner specializing in fine art prints
TX, United States
These items are each designed and proofed by me. This company specifically works with artist and uses quality materials. They are specialist in reproducing fine art.
Printer specializing in fine art prints
NY, United States
I work with a professional, family run, small business who produces high quality art prints. I personally proof and prepare every piece for reproduction. They assist me with my prints for galleries, Etsy and physical stores.
Specialty Item Printer
Wilmington Manor, DE
Printing my original designs on specialty items. All prints are designed, edited and approved by myself.
those are for their prints, not the paintings
@LovesVintage43 Thank you for your reply. Yes, those listings are showing correctly as Designed By. They have not changed. They are prints of my original paintings. I do have my printing partner who've I've been working with for 13 years assigned to them.
The listings I'm having problems with are my original painting and hand painted jar listings. These are made in my studio by me without assistance. These have just been changed to Designed By. Perviously they were designated as Made By. They don't have production partners attached because none are used for them.
@NancyQstudio Ah I see, sorry ! So you actually have to add the production partner via the individual listing on your prints? That definitely sounds like some kind of tech issue then! Your Mother, Son & Daughter original painting still says Made By...I wonder if there's anything different in the details to the others? x
@LovesVintage43 Correct, the individual listing has to be attached to a correct printing partner. Thank you so much for checking that listing. It's documented the same as the other originals. It appears either the newer edits worked or this issue is being worked out? I just listed that one. It may change too? I'm waiting to see.
So far my custom, made to order and original paintings are still showing Made By while the prints are still showing Designed By. I will keep an eye on this. Thanks for the warning, but I don't know how to work around this one if they change for me too.
@ZehOriginalArt I'm so happy you chimed in. I was wondering if this was just impacting paintings. Hearing from you means that's not the case so thanks for sharing. I'm very happy to hear your listings haven't been affected.
I wonder if the bots are looking at photos more now which may possibly explain it? The difference I am seeing between your original paintings and mine is that it looks like you use an image editor to show a cast shadow to show that there is depth to the canvas, but that type of presentation is also used when showing prints by print-on-demand sellers.
As for the jars, I have no idea, unless you are using a mockup for the background? Love the jars, BTW!
@ZehOriginalArt I don't use any mockups for the jars. And I've photographed them myself. Yeah, I use a shadow to show the depth of the canvas on my painting listings which is done through an image editor. And I remove the background from the photograph as well. I'd think this might be the problem expect the jars have not had this type of image editing...Yet, they are all now mislabeled too.
Well, that is a mystery about the jars. The photographs are certainly very nice and professional looking. I just wonder that since Etsy AI is now putting alt text in our photos, if they are using it for this too. If so, there is no telling what will happen.
Mine are still saying "Made By" but I will keep an eye on them to see if anything changes.
@boygirlboygirldesign It's very good to hear this hasn't impacted your shop. I'm hoping mine incorrectly changed listings will switch back.
Huh, my best seller (which has really dropped off a cliff) was changed to Designed By, no idea when it happened though. All the others that I checked, which are the exact same type of item, are ok
