I've made a sale to Hong Kong but when I go to buy the postage it says the address is too long so I checked it against a Hong Kong address checker (just in case a part was duplicated- for example I've had orders for 'London, London') and the format it shows is different- parts of the address are on different lines and part of it is not there.
Should I just message the buyer to check the address and is there a reason why the formats would be different?
Handwrite it on the package. You can take a photo of the label and verify with the customer it’s okay before you ship if you’re really unsure. The photo will save you in the case of any non delivery dispute. I would not alter it based on something you’re seeing online.
I wouldn't change it ordinarily- unless it's a UK address that I'm familiar with (like adding in the county). I need to be buying the label through Etsy though as I'm trying to get the star seller badge.
Whatever you can’t fit, I’m saying handwrite it on the label.
I don't sell international (I'm in the US), but I sometimes get addresses that are too long for Etsy labels the way they are addressed. I usually buy those labels on Pirate Ship which allows for longer addresses. Then I mark my orders complete and put in the tracking number. As long as you put the tracking number on your completed order, you're good for the star seller badge. I'd check with the customer if you're unsure if the address is correct though.
Well done for getting a sale from Hong Kong, I hand write my labels as I don't have a printer for Etsy labels, so do things manually. It works out cheaper for me as I have to invest in printer paper too, and I am on a low budget.
